Eddie, I popped the hub up in my living room a couple days after it arrived and it looks awesome! I can't wait to get it out on the ice. WS sent me a PM a week and a half ago and he copied the tips and tricks that you had sent him. I meant to send you a PM to say thanks but I guess this will suffice... thanks to both of you for all the info!

Morning all,

H2L.....thoughts and prayers to MrsH2L on today's surgery, hope all goes well  ;)   glad the scan results were good

IFF.....sure hope your weather settles down and your lakes freeze up soon  :icefish:

Eddie....MrWW isn't seeing anything in the woods, from the trail cam pics the deer have become pretty much completely nocturnal  :-\

OG.....glad you got to see your daughter dance   enjoy her time home  ;D

IW....have a fun day with Carson  ;)2   maybe decorate some sugar cookies  ???

Deere.....I had to keep a close eye on the gingerbread men decorations, some ended up in the NSFW category  :nono:  :roflmao:

Agree 100% that this whole PC thing is out of control......Charlie Brown is racist, Rudolph's Dad is sexist, a decades old Christmas song promotes date rape, no candy canes allowed, no santa etc etc etc  :o :nono: ::) :%$#!:  people need to lighten up a little, relax and not be so easily offended imho

Put a batch of venison strips in marinade a couple days ago and just fired up the dehydrator.....jerky treats for MrWW  :flex:

Have a good day at work or play. Stay safe.

Good morning everyone

10 heading into the mid 20's today. They claim we should enjoy our snow as it's likely to all melt in the coming week. If it does I will have to fetch the old spear house and bring it home.

Thanks for the comments on the walleyes, I sure hope I will be able to post a picture of that big walley some day.

Eddie I am sitting in 10' but it's on a decent drop off. Within 15' it drops to 20'. Good luck tomorrow if you hit the woods

IW enjoy your day with Carson

h2l prayers from MN for your wife, hope all goes well.

OG I always get excited when I see a fish down the hole, stands to reason I guess as the same thing happens out in the woods :roflmao:

Deere let us know how it goes when you get it on the ice, Eddie's list is a good one.

Eddie and IW hit a nerve when they talked about people getting offended. The other day in the paper there was a story about the new and correct look of The Holiday Season and how to properly decorate a tree if you still have the need to place one.  First and foremost was the idea of always buying new earth friendly ornaments yearly, and recycling the old ones when the tree gets put back into its box. Items like tinsel should never be used and the days of topping a tree with an angel are definitely frowned upon. They mentioned how lights needed to be of a certain type and which colors were no longer acceptable. I used that section of the paper to heat the flue

I have always thought of Christmas as a time of traditions, some old and some new. The scouting out of a tree to bring home, decorating it with treasured ornaments from years gone by, and topping it with an angel that my Grandma used to place on her tree. Some of our ornaments are over 80 years old. I have 2 ornaments my Mom placed on her trees; my wife has a couple that her mom received from her mother. We have some twinkling lights that 25 years ago I drove to the jungle during a blinding snowstorm to purchase because my wife made mention of always wanting a string, but they were too expensive.

Every year as my wife decorates our tree she takes us one by one through each ornament and the history behind it. I have often suggested we film the process if nothing else to hand it down, but from the sounds of it our traditions will be ending with us, as my nieces and their families don’t bother with a tree.

The last ten years or so, part of my tradition has been to make a drive on Christmas Eve to visit my parents where they now lay together in a beautiful spot under an oak tree. With cemeteries no longer being fashionable, traditions like this will soon be ending also. All you hear about are the millennials and all the changes they will be making. I for one hate changes and for myself will be totally fine with missing all the so called new ideas, as I also will be lying together with my wife and my parents in a beautiful spot under an oak tree.

Merry Christmas

Good day ,made a road trip yesterday to place Christmas wreath on a family friend's grave got a couple surprises on the trip. There now is a Dollar General store in this rural area (good for the residents but tells me area population maybe growing) ,the road the leads to church and it's cemetery borders the east branch of Neversink river I had a bald eagle fly from drainage ditch across the road and river and perch in a tree nice sight to see.
Eddie will have to listen to song and see what in the lyrics some people find offensive. I do the same when action is slow at a location I've fished at before think of what happened on past trips.
Ice Wanderer remember where you hide wife's presents I've lost a couple over the years only to find weeks or months later. Hope you had a good day with Carson.
Hunts2long may your wife recover quickly from her surgery and be home with you before Christmas.Good job cleaning out the freezer.
Whopper Stopper it may affect action of the VMC spoons but maybe use a section of wire leader so the pike don't keep biting you off. I believe it was Bob Dylan who wrote the "Times they are Changing" to me part of what makes Christmas special is the family traditions and memories of years past . I would record or write down the history of your ornaments.
Wallyworld good plan to complete Christmas shopping before the last minute rush and the task becomes a burden. I'm sure Mr.WW will enjoy the jerky.
Deerefishyfishy enjoy the new ice shelter may it serve your needs for many years. Good luck getting a deer for your In-laws.
Old Goat glad you got to see your daughter preform enjoy the time you spend together while she is home. May she have a safe and good field trip.
IFF assume the missus eye have healed and she is seeing better then ever. Have fun watching the Jay Hawks basketball team this season. Hope Gander Outdoors gets it's act together so you have a nicer work life in 2019.
FishinJohn how are you and your crew holding up getting near end of big game season .
Hoserman hope all is well in the tip of Michigan's mitten any change to go ice fishing.
Capt.Jim how are you and the family doing after this weekend's services .Hope they brought all of you some comfort.

A safe and good night to all.
Steve

Thanks Steve, yes much better, back to 20-20, hasn't been that good since she was 16, got new reading glasses, and a good discount via Medicare.  No movement on the store except removing our storage shelving to redo the CW receiving departments.

Ice making weather has vacated the area again.  Store is now shaving hours.  I get some ice to fish on I will shave some hours myself  ;)

Marv nice post, I knew there must be a reason I like you

Good Evening, Gang

We get ice making temps. at night, with skim ice in the a.m., then the temps. get to the 40's during the day with the sun, some ponds lose what they made, some hold it, but it's
going to be a long time before it will hold weight, rain for the weekend

Mrs. W.W.-Mr. Clean - In all actuality, the weekend went very well with the memorial service, Sat., we had just over 40 people at the house signing the book, Sun., it was over 50,
all had some kind of story to tell, one of the girls who showed up who knew Melisa, drove up from S. Carolina just for the memorial, Melisa helped to take care of her sons 22
years ago, I put in some one-on-one time with her, going thru the timeline of events, she found solace with the way the memorial was done, to celebrate Melisa and the life
she had, not mourning it, the memorial was almost a party atmosphere, which is what Melisa would have wanted, that was said by everyone there, at one time or another,
instead of the cards available with a name, date, and biblical passage, packets of wild flower seeds were in the basket for the taking, to be sowed, in rememberance of her, all
in all, everything was, is, and will be good for a long time

Again, let me say Thank You to all of you, the I.S. family of friends, for your thoughts and prayers, helping us to get thru this difficult and trying time

H2L - Thoughts, prayers, and best wishes to the wife

I.F.F. - Good to hear the wife has 'eagle eye'  vision back, no cheating at the card games ,now

GO to IT, Ryan, pop-pop needs a fishing partner

W.S. - Tell the missus, great looking tree , you'll get that walleye, just need time, it is time honored traditions and practices that make Christmas the joyous season of the year,
commercialism will never be 'in style', wait for the young ones to get older, some of them will 'get it'

D.F.F. - Good Luck with the hub

I.W. - Have fun with Carson

O.G. - Are you going to try and learn a few dance steps from your daughter - or try to teach her a few?

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. They worked. Talked to her for a few minutes last night but she was still pretty drugged up. She called this morning and is feeling better. Tired, sore and wants a big breakfast. Spam sandwich would be good....lol

21 this morning.. Saw 4 eagles out here one day over the weekend. Yesterday there was one sitting on the ice about 50 feet from the house.

Looks like someone may have clipped a deer just down the road. Hope it wasn't the buck I saw the other day. It was a nice one.
These temps have to be making some ice. No snow on top the lake looks like a big skating rink. Haven't seen anyone out yet.

Have a good day....h2l

Capt Jim It had to be  great to have the girl come from S. Carolina for Melisa's memorial. It showed how much Melisa meant to her and the other people that came.

WS My sons and I ate a lot of fried spam when they were growing up. Egg and cracker crumbs on it. Every time I talk about buying some the wife gets a nasty face.

I love that tree. Talk about ornaments with a history. When I grew up my mother had a box of home made ornaments that her aunt made during WWll. They were made out of can lids, cut and bent in curls in different shapes. Then they had glitter glued on them. Ornaments were not a priority to be manufactured during the war. Sadly she threw them away to my displeasure.  They made me remember her aunt who was a wonderful woman.

Watch that ice. Some one went through on our lake last week end. A woman drowned on a pond trying to rescue her dog that went through in Grand Rapids.

H2L Prayers that every thing is looking up for your wife. Hopefully she can come home soon.

IFF I went through getting my eye sight back to 20/20 too when I had my cataracts removed. Now the challenge is to remember where I left my reading glasses.

The wife and I had podiatrist appointments yesterday. The wife has had a painful callus on one foot for a long time. His wife put a cushion on the insert of that shoe that has done away with the pain.

Time to head out and get groceries. The list is pretty long with things that are needed for Christmas dinner.

CapJ....so glad to hear the weekend went well, the wildflower seed packets sound like the perfect tribute to an amazing woman  :angel

H2L.....glad the surgery went well for MrsH2L   fingers crossed the docs set her free soon  ;)  bald eagles are always a treat to see  :)

IW....I'll bet Carson talked up a storm while helping peel eggs  :woot:  little things like that make some of the best memories for a child

IFF....hope you get some safe ice soon, sounds like you might be in need of a therapy session   ;D   any plans of giving up on Gander  ???

TT.....those ornaments sound interesting, too bad your Mom threw them out  :(  glad MrsTT got some relief on her foot pain, especially with all the cooking/baking to be done  ;)2

WS.....good luck today, hope that trophy eye decides he wants his picture taken  :roflmao:  there was always a can of Spam in the cupboard growing up, fried with scrambled eggs for dinner  :)

Eddie.....gremlin visit today  ???   hope you get a shot this afternoon  ;)

MrC....being retired gives me the benefit of not having to do the weekend shopping thing, not a big fan of crowds   even when I was working I rarely had weekends off so I could avoid most of the busiest times  ;)   I imagine you're seeing an increase in shopper numbers the closer we get to Christmas  @)

Have a good day at work or play. Stay safe.

Good afternoon everyone

Well the day wasn't all bad however I was sure wondering for awhile ??? I got to the lake extra early so things could settle down from the noise of setting up. I had about 15 minutes to wait before I could see my jig, I didn't want a slime rocket stealing my Tingler with out a chance to play keep away.

It had just started getting light down the hole when I heard someone pulling a plastic sled on the ice heading my way. All the other houses have migrated away from me but this guy evidently wanted to be friends  He stopped at my house and said I was sure out there early and he started visiting. I tried to be civil and finally he said he was going to set up his spear house.

He went about 15 yards from me and fired up a chainsaw and started cutting. Keep in mind the ice is only 7" at most and he sawed and chiseled for over a half hour. I happen to glance at my bait and a walleye was sitting by it looking it over, I gave the jig a little twitch and it was game on. I had brought my wife's kayak net with me today and it worked out way better than leaning over the big hole trying to grab the fish. When I looked at it I saw it had swallowed the Tingler clear down to it's discharge chute ???

I had to go out to my box and get a tool, I hadn't made it 2 steps when that guy came running over to see what I had caught. I tried to cut him short and I finally got back in my house and started fishing. About 15 minutes went by and I heard my new friend open his house zipper and start walking my way. Just about on cue a dandy walleye in the 22"-24" range came sliding into the hole. As the guy walked up to me the walleye spooked and with a flip of the tail was gone :%$#!:

The guy asked me if I had a chainsaw file which I didn't so he had to walk to shore and get one out of his car. While he was gone a bass came into the hole and chomped my Tingler. I was able to stash it in my box unnoticed and soon a second one came in and joined the first one in my fish bag. Many people say how lethargic bass are in the winter but I can't say these were, both came in fairly fast and both put up a good fight before hitting the net.

It was probably 25 minutes before I heard my new buddy coming back. I knew he would have to tell me he was back so I was expecting it, what I wasn't expecting was a 34"-36" northern blast through the hole spooked from his shuffling feet on the ice. :%$#!: He asked me if my water was murky because his was murky, then he started telling me how nice and peaceful it was where we were at.....  that's about when I had had enough. I asked him if he had been spearing long and he said no that he was just getting into it. I took the time to go outside and I probably gave him more advice than he wanted to hear. I believe he thought I was a tad miffed and I suppose he was right. I don't know if anything sunk in but hopefully he will have a little more consideration the next time he is out, with that I called it a day.

Tomorrow I have a Dentist appointment so I probably won't get back to the spear house until Friday. They are calling for a stretch of warm weather through next week with 40's possible. I may have to take the shack home if we lose what little snow cover we have.

Hope you all have an excellent evening  Stay safe.

Good evening ER's Good report WS you should get one of those on camera sometimes. I was out one year catching gills and chilling out perfect silence unless I was grabbing one. Some guy came up from behind me said Hi scared the hell out of me nearly fell off the bucket. He wasn't fishing just curios had a nice chat he left. Back in the chill zone and the next guy brings out a 10 inch auger and drills a crap load of holes, louder than hell. I just got up and left. Nice catch and teaching the new guy a bit then><_(*)&

Capt. J  It hurt watching my daughter just stretch out as a young dancer I could only teach her how to waltz she used to make me try to do her dances when young. Not no more I have 3 left feet. I did good one year though a 2 recital weekend after I dropped her off she called with about 10 min before her dance and left the head piece at home. I wasn't at home and made it home and to recital with 3 min to spare through the nasty speed trap and garage sale weekend for the whole city thank god the law wasn't there that day it would have been a hefty ticket.

Good evening, Capt.Jim happy that the memorial services helped  your family and you with the healing process.
IFF good to hear your wife only needs reading glasses after her surgery. Hope you and your coworkers get answers as to future of your store to me not a good sign that upper management choose to miss out on the Christmas holiday shopping season.
Wallyworld I'm not a big fan of crowds either  done some last minute holiday shopping a few times not a good experience.
Ice Wanderer lets us know how Carson likes the pickled eggs. Sure he enjoyed his lunch out with grandpa.
Tom Turkey sorry your mom got rid of aunt's home made ornaments would be nice family heirlooms today.
Whopper Stopper congratulations on the fish. Surprised anything was left in the area after noise from the chain saw cutting ice .
Eddie guessing you were short on time this morning or the computer gremlins made a visit. How was the hunting.

Seeing reports here on Ice Shanty that some lakes in my area have between 3-4 inches of ice have to see how they survive this weekend's warm up and rain.

Good Morning Everyone,
Calm and making ice on the Hill this am, 18* with a high of 26 here today.

Capt.Jim...so glad to read the memorial service for Melisa went well for you and the family. May all those wild flowers grow as beautiful as the hearts she has touched....God Bless.
Steve...crossing fingers the new ice down your way holds up with the warmer temps and rain coming as well.
Bud...X2, hope your weather pattern out there is starting to go the other way now. Great news on your wife's vision going to 20/20!
OG...hope things are going well for you, have they scheduled a surgery date?
Marv...nice job on the fishing, and thanks for sharing the pictures, awesome! Can't even imagine your frustration level when your new neighbor set up camp right on top of you....Ouch! Hopefully some of your tips were absorbed and tomorrows trip will be uneventful....best of luck Sir!
Wally...no gremlins, just ran late yesterday morning...laundry!   ;D.  Hope Mr.WW's luck changes today!
H2...great news on your wife, hope it won't be much longer before she is released now!
Jeff...sounds like you and Carson had a great day together, wtg GrandPa!
DFF...best of luck with the new hub, hope some of those tips are helpful.

Had to pass on yesterday's afternoon hunt, but it's game on today!
They lightened up our crew by 2 masons on Tuesday...or maybe I should say 1 1/2. One of the them was happy about it as he had just purchased another property and needed time to work on it. The other was the apprentice who worked harder on his phone and caused more issues than anything else for the last few years....there is a Santa Claus!  Hate to see anyone lose a job, but what's worse is seeing people abuse a job.
Moral was high yesterday...   Still plugging along on the concrete, won't finish up this week, but should be totally wrapped up by Tuesday!
   Cawfee's on....
Have a great day all, be safe, best of luck to those fishing/hunting!

21 this morning. Not as cold as they had said.
Capt. Jim glad the weekend went well. Melisa must have been loved by many.
WS, nice fat walleye.
Eddie, good luck if you get to go out.
Wife was in pretty good spirits last night. She wants to get back into the 4 or 5 walks she takes everyday but they haven't removed a tube that have in her. She still goes a couple times a day but I guess it is pain with it hooked up. I can't believe it has been 3 weeks today. Being in the hospital hasn't stopped her from shopping. Still seeing the UPS or FEDEX guy almost everyday. She says she is done shopping but I have heard that before.
Have a good day....h2l

Good Morning ER's hovering around 20 and increasing a bit as the day rolls on. Capt. Jim Melisa sounds like she touched a lot of lives how special. H2L hope the Mrs. gets that tube out soon and comes home to finish her shopping. Mason I was set for surgery yesterday had the gown on already and the next thing the Dr. comes in and cancels it. He said after looking more at results of last round he thought it was too dangerous and my ticker has a lot of damage. There is  a Plan B surgery already set for tomorrow I might have to ask a lot of ? before it. Stay topside for those hitting the ice.

Good Morning Everyone, I hope everyone has been well. I haven’t been online due to severe headaches and trying to get a mri for my lower back so I can see a surgeon. Have a court date next month. All I want is to get better so I can go out on the ice. I hope everyone has a great day and if people are on the ice a safe one.
Take a kid ice fishing

Good morning everyone .light snow falling no accumulation on the ground yet weather guessers over on Weather Underground website say I might see a total of 1 inch.
Eddie glad no gremlins in your computer. May your work crew not see to many layoffs know it is normal in your trade during the Winter months. Best with the hunting this afternoon.
Hunts2long good your wife has a positive attitude and wants to be active. Think she is ready to come home the shopping gives her something to do during the day. When you get on a first name basis with the UPS/FedX and Mail carrier then I'll agree your wife needs to scale back her purchases a little.
Old Goat may all go good with the surgery and you be home to spend Christmas with family. Keeping you and your family in my prayers.
Wallyworld usually we will have a period of colder temperature and lakes/ponds start building ice only to see a warm spell and everything has to start again. If you get on the ice by Christmas you are lucky. I know everyone has different comfort levels and "safe Ice" thickness and some folks will be out fishing small shallow bodies of water around mid December. Many of these places are privately owned so I think they see limited activity so people feel they are safe on 2 inches of black ice since they have water to themselves. have you started baking for your trip to son in MA.
Morning Icefisher-45 sorry to hear you still getting the headaches has to be frustrating after a while .

Have a safe and good day folks. Best to all fishing/spearing and hunting.
Steve

Good Morning Everyone,
Looks like we're in for some warmer and wet weather for the next few days here. 29* this am, high of 42 today.

OG...hope today's surgery takes care of that problem for you,  thoughts and prayers will continue for both you and your brother Sir.
Steve...we ended up getting about 2" of snow here yesterday, it came in fast and hard out of nowhere it seemed. My weather app only showed a 20% chance early yesterday am.   ;D
I-45...feel for you with those constant headaches and back problems, dang. Hope the MRI gets scheduled soon and best wishes on that court hearing! Thoughts and prayers sent your way also this am.
H2...wow, hadn't realized its been 3 weeks already. I hope it's just a matter of hours now before your wife is back home...best wishes on more good news today!
Marv...best of luck in the spear house today! Hope that big old walleye shows up again and not the new neighbor!  ;D
Wally...how did your venison jerky turn out? Best of luck to Mr.WW today....

Made it to my stand by 1:30 yesterday afternoon, light snow falling and a fresh blanket on the ground. It made for ideal conditions as far as seeing and tracking if necessary. At a few minutes after 4, I saw one big Doe making her way across a piece of adjoining property, wide open pasture about 100yds. away. Unfortunately, I don't have permission to hunt that property and the Doe never made her way towards me. Nothing else following her, and didn't see a single deer on my drive back home.
Going to try again this afternoon...cawfee's on!
Have a great day all, be safe, best of luck to those fishing/spearing/hunting!
