"Mcgyver" shelter.........need some ideas.
« on: Feb 13, 2012, 07:08 PM »
Any ideas on "Mcgyver" type set up that could keep two guys protected for a day of hard core fishing? We dont have a portable and are heading a few hours from home. as we all know horrable weather can make or brake a good trip.  This trip was recently just planned so the obvious answer would have been to buy a portable......however we didnt and dont have time to.thinking maybe we could throw something together? Any pictures or ideas for something we cant throw together that would trap alittle heat from a buddy and protect us from the wind?

maybe a pop up blind for hunting ? just make sure to anchor it down. see this alot.

My Biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my gear for what i said i paid for it.

If you're in a bind, a couple sheets of plywood propped up against the wind helps a lot to keep the wind down.  If you've a mind to, could also attach another sheet on top.  With a heater in the corner it's workable, fast and cheap.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I've seen guys set up windbreaks using conduit as uprights, and tarp in between.  If you have a sled, you could rig this up.  Also, I've seen people bring a drill and drill holes in the ice to hold up the conduit.  Just make sure to have tie-downs on the upwind side, and put something on these to make sure you don't trip over them!  Takes a while to set up, but if you're in a bind, it might work out for you.

Also duct tape makes shanty expansion lots easier.
