Trust me. I'm thinking positive. But the reality is there just may not be the time to make the required thickness based on current forecasts. They usually make the call a week prior to the date.

I'd love to come and fish the derby at WP, but wait, once again it's on the same day as the Chenango lake derby. I know that Chenango had to postpone, but wish they could of done 3 weeks so not to conflict.

I've done the perch derby a few times. They charge $5 to enter and the prizes aren't all that great compared to the prizes at the crappie derby that only costs $2 to enter.  ??? ???

I heard they require 12" of ice for the perch derby as well. Anyone know if this is true?

Yes they need 12" for the green light. Chenango Lake is at 10" as of last Saturday.

It's the best thing for the lake you would think eventually the fishing would get better but nothing seams to change

We've done that on a year where the perch derby was cancelled. "The NO derby" derby.

Here in Whitney Point we'd have more "no derby derbies" than crappie derbies.  ;D ;D ;D

The last "get together" was a blast.  Just a quick question to all dead sea fisherman this season....I thought last year the ice fishing was as good as it ever had been for years....quality and at times, good quantity.  I haven't fished it enough this season to really compare...but from what I have done this season there and all reports I'm hearing...it's down right terrible!  I had a couple people getting them (crappie/ keepers) at night, but has anyone landed a keeper eye this year?  I haven't seen one!  At least no pics...lotta possible fish stories  ::) ::)

I have it on good authority that there's an organized group of "fisherman" in the region who are going from lake to lake and wiping out the fisheries.  It's pretty sick what a little research, GPS, and modern technology can do. You find the right spots and have the right gear and no morals, you can totally clean out a lake or pond. The DEC is aware, they just haven't caught up to them just yet. Please use the tip line whenever you witness overharvesting, wanton waste and littering. It's a real shame what's become of our sport...Whitney Point is one of the lakes they have been targeting (open water as well)

A couple years back if I caught a 20+" eye, I was excited and kept it. Now, I've learned so much from guys about "breeders" and fish management, that I've let those bigger ones go.  It's not easy, but necessary. Last week, my biggest eye was over 22" and she went back (river fishing) to help keep the strain going. Those who over harvest, keep shorts, and pile up trophies just to show what they did are hurting all of us in the long run.  Only good news is that WP res has a lot of real small eyes in her now showing that there is a reproduction process started. I'm thinking a lot of out of town visitors don't care about our res and have hammered it pretty hard over the last few years. Could be wrong though. Be careful what you post.... People flock to info 😏

If this is true I hope they get caught very soon that's terrible and pisses me off
