my biggest was 16 inches out of Lake Erie....it tripped a downrigger when it nailed a walleye diver. No pics as it was before digitals. My second biggest was a 15 incher right here in Indiana.
here is a 14.25 from a couple of weeks ago.

This is the third time on this thread that you've commented on what YOU think others should do with a big fish. These guys posting pictures are justifiably proud of catching big perch. If you choose to release big perch..fine. If others want to keep big perch....fine. What's not FINE is for one fisherman to judge and criticize what another one chooses to do with his fish. And you need to take some classes in fisheries biology. Your assumption that the large size of every perch is due to superior genetics completely omits other factors that probably contribute significantly to their extreme lengths and weights. Please have the discretion to realize how offensive your C.P.R. comments are on a fishing site where most guys choose to keep fish to eat or to mount.

O.M.G  ! calm down...  offensive? LOL..  before you open your big mouth, do a bit of research....   and also all I'm saying is take the eaters. the big slobs have egg mass , not as much meat as one would think...so practice .. CPR   p.s. i don't have to take a course,  i teach one.

The guys posting photos of big perch have already made the decision to keep big perch, so your un-asked for comment after the fact certainly is offensive to them.  One would hope you "teach" with more discretion than you post.

Selective harvest is very effective.  If you think any fish can become a trophy you are a fool.  Sure, not every fish with the genetic potential to reach trophy size will, but a runt wont grow into a trophy if it finds a good feeding spot.  Bryan is bang on and i applaud him for sticking up for the big fish.  A prime example of this theory is how Ontario has managed its trophy muskie waters in the north ( Eagle, Seul etc).  Big fish = more reproductive potential.  And aside from all that, the smaller ones taste better anyhow?

Caught this perch my wife is holding last year from a central Pa lake it is 12" long 1.5lbs.

Caught this one yesterday from the very same lake 13 1/2" and 1 3/4lbs.
Never get excited there's a reason for everything,I just don't know what it is??

Thank you......     as you said, we have to manage all our fish.   selective harvest is the way to go.   thx for coming to my rescue  ;D its a good felling to release the slobs,  knowing they will make more babies. so i keep a few more smaller ones to make up the difference, like you said the smaller ones taste better anyway, take care,  Bryan    by the way, i luv that area you mentioned, used to go up there every year,

i have to agree and disagree. genetics has a part to do with the growth of the fish but there are also other reasons why a fish grows that size. the body of water, how plentiful the bait is, what type of bait is in the water, and how plentiful are the predator fish. perch lay 10,000 to 40,000 eggs a year thats based on a average 8 inch perch so i would think a couple slobs would be coming out of that batch. its kind of like saying your basing our obesity problem in the states on genetics alone dosnt make any sense
