What part of the Water Column??
« on: Jan 26, 2011, 08:02 PM »
Hey guys new to trout fishing, a local lake was stalked with rainbows and is 3 to 4 acres with depths from 5 to 20ish ft. average depth being 15 ft. I was just wondering if the trout stick to the bottom like other panfish or if they are suspended like crappies?

Thanks for the help

a lot of it depends on the feed base, up here in Maine most of the food base is smelt, and so they are often found any where from right under the ice to 10-12 feet down, or in shallow water eating bugs and larvae.  The trout will be where the food is.  In my opinion you are better off determining what the food base is and following the food around, the fish will be there
Its not a passion its an obsession
