Yeah had them in the narrows.  Never left the screen all day.  They were some of the smallest ones I've ever caught.

I had smelt on my screen all day yesterday up north. Ill be back out Saturday morning.

Hey adktony I hear you ran into my buddy out there today (bornoutside). We were looking at the map and saw a couple spots a touch north of where you guys were today that have us interested. Gonna hit them Saturday morning.

It was nice to have a little reassurance on the thin ice. Kinda dumb going solo but worked out well lot of good spots all over the lake just stay away from the deep holes reel force and I had to find that out the hard way a couple yrs ago both putting up goose eggs. Never went back lol

What do you use to catch the smelt, I remember on Champlain  using a flat metal bar about 5 inches long by 1/2 in wide with hook leader and a piece of smelt?

That setup was standard on Champlain, but on Schroon with the tiny smelt there a Hali and a grub works well. Try different color Hali's til you find something that works.

Had lots of schools of smelt and got a few by mistake while jigging for lakers by the island across from Stewarts. I wanted to fish the narrows saw guys parked by the restaurant is that private property. Where can one park to access the narrows or eagle pt. Thanks..

I'm heading up in the am anyone have any suggestions to catch a few laketrout. I have a first timer coming along and would like to get him a few fish. I haven't done so well on the north end lately, marked a few fish but only jigger up a few small lakers..

The Narrows Restaurant is private property but ice fishermen are allowed to park there to enter the lake, it is plowed by the Town of Schroon. Access is also available on Hayes Rd, about a 1/4 mile south of the narrows.  Eagle Point access is at the Eagle Point State campsite.

I'm not familiar with Hayes rd. I pulled into the restaurant but was reluctant to park there. I see that you have to walk down the hill. Is the campground usually plowed for access? I have trolled the section south of the narrows and it is a decent spot for lakers. I would like to get on somewhere around there..

Yes, park up top, left of Restaurant, and walk down hill.  There are usually several vehicles parked there. Popular access point.

In my experience , eagle point is usually not plowed. There is a switch back hill about 2xs that of the narrows.
Please respect the access we have at the narrows. Don't park in the snowplow turn around area when it's snowing.
Don't leave trash. I was there last sat and picked up trash.
Leave any area as good or better then we find it and everyone will be happy.

Thanks for all the info I'll let you know how we do. Only have a few schroon trips left fot the season, heard Lake George skimmed usually hit pilot knob for lakers when it's ready. Judging by the weather it will be a go shortly.

We went out on Schroon this morning, it was snowing and a light wind. When we got to the parking area another truck pulled in and as things went we started a conversation, and one of the guys said are you Ice Wanderer. His name on the Shanty is Ice Tripper, we exchanged pleasantries.   It took a while to find the area that we wanted top be, not long after setting up I marked smelt and maybe a Laker on the bottom. Then bam I got one to take my lure, not the monster that I wanted, good enough for dinner to night. 19 3/4". I got some more to chase my lure, but they lost interest, I did get 3 hit and spit. Not  long and the sun came out and the wind picked up something fierce, so we left at around 11:15.

I'm a little late coming to the party here, but I was lucky enough to get out yesterday.
I got a few guys to thank for it, but I really felt like I knew what I was doing yesterday.
It was -15 when we walked out, but I refused to set up the shack until I marked a chasing fish. It took about 10 holes before I connected and dumped a fish 1/2 way up. I set up the shack immediately after and got to work. I put 3 on the ice in a hurry and started helping my buddy. A lil coaching (Info from the laker guys regurgitated) got him finally connected.
I got snapped off by a really big fish on my ultralight. I'm blaming a poor tie job. It took dumping a few more fish to finally get a good hook set in one, but my 4th came on an ultralight.
Little white pimples got it done for me.
Our chasers were just lookers with a jig tipped with a minnow. Take the minnow off and they couldn't resist the white pimple on the chase.

You definitely didn't miss much.  I sure hope it was the storm and front that had them shut off.  Either that or you and Jamey caught them all.  :P  Swung by 307 on the way back, figured you'd be in today to harass.
