Title: Getting the itch....
Post by: funtwohunt on Aug 24, 2014, 01:04 PM
I have been fishing up to Box Butte a lot this summer. Bought a Lowrance Elite  4 HDI fish finder, quite the locater. Not a top end one but plenty good for me. It even has a flasher. The down scan feature is pretty cool too. Been marking a lot of areas to be later used for ice fishing. Some are the same areas where I ice fished last year. Being able to see the structure that holds the fish is pretty cool. Need good weather to get the fall crops out then the cold and ice so we can harvest the fish crop too. It would be awesome to be on the ice by mid December. Later, Funtwohunt

Yes, I sometimes harvest a few fish that are going to die due to being hooked deep rather than waste them, :(  but I catch and release some of my corn crop with the combine to feed the pheasants and deer.....   @) ;D   Happy trails !

Yea, I some times use the word harvest, because a few years ago I had an anti hunter/ fisherman ask me why we killed everything. I explained to them in a manner that hunting/fishing was the same as harvesting, you harvest grains and vegetables after they were grown and mature enough to eat, and animals and fish were the same thing, we harvest them after they are grown and mature. The light came on and they are fine with hunting/fishing now. Funtwohunt

Spent an evening fishing last week.  Caught one really nice bass, but was soaked in sweat by the time I quit.

Catch & release or harvest, SELECTIVE HARVEST, I cannot wait for ice!

"I wanna ice fish, baby"!

Yeh, If I am going to sweat from fishing, I would rather be working up a lather pulling my ice gear around :P  on a frozen lake !  Happy trails ! ;D

Right on brother! We need more people thinking like you...did they add the Ringneck Pheasant to the endangered species list yet?

Was planning to go up to BB this morning but the weather will be raining on and off for the next few hours. If there is any clear time I'll be out there. Daryl, how has the fishing been in other lakes this summer, Box Butte seemed to be real good all summer, perch and gills thru May -early june, perch, eyes thru most of june and july, then gills and perch picked up again and stayed strong thru august thus far.

No Grizz, I don't think that the Pheasant has been added to the list yet, but I would rather have them around than some obscure snail  ::) or a pack of Elk and deer killing wolves that they seem to want to promote! >:(   When some of the environmentalists get their head out of their a**es about some of this, then our great outdoors will become a better place!  ;)  (The preceeding message is my own opinion, which I seem to share with many others)  Happy trails !

I wish that stores would start getting some inventory.  Even online is slow going.  My buddy just got a good deal on the lx-7
