pouring a little olive oil in the tip up holes

is this fact or fiction, by pouring a little olive oil in the hole it will slow down the freezing process , i heard about some guys trying it but i have never bothered. i know it cant hurt or poison the water. let me know ...

i know i've used corn oil to keep the hole from freezing before. i would say it worked.

The oil may slow freezing, but I would be afraid it would "attack" the line and weaken it.

we tried some olive oil in the holes of the permanent the other day. it did slow the refreezing down alot but because of the oil it made the holes really slimy.

Food grease rots the tires on my truck! I don't see why it wouldn't affect other compounds.
