I predict 2"-3" of safe ice on the back waters of the fox chain or Mississippi river by dec 12th

Who knows ? NOAA said we were going to have a bad Hurricane and Tropical storm season, but what happened ? Not much as far as that was concerned. I would hope it would be early, but my guess is after Christmas.

Going to say January 4th. Can't be soon enough. Just winterized the boat and am pulling out the ice fishing gear.

Who knows! Farmers almanac says were in for above average snow and colder temps. I would love to see ice before xmas. But these past seasons have been such a late freeze. I'm going to hope the almanac is right. I'm saying Dec 19th!
-
as long as we can get the water temps into the low 40's going into dec i think we'll get some early ice.
2 week forcast here is a doozy. like highs and lows 10 degrees below normal. i like that trend.

Dec 7th looks good for the last 10 yrs looking at my records the first Sat in Dec is when me and a few other crazy's are on some skinny water.

-
If accuweather is correct I'm going with dec 5th for me on small ponds hopefully quicker but that would be a long road trip LOL

Hey Illinois, Just wanted to give a shout out to you all down there and wish you luck with your season. Grew up in Byron which is south of Rockford many many moons ago and taught school in Chicago for a few years before moving to Wisconsin. Now living here in Alaska and and enjoying the last frontier but enjoy following threads from home. Happy Holidays to you all and have an awesome and safe ice season this year. ;D

Hey CB,
I grew up not far from Byron, Franklin Grove. Now, I married a gal from Morrison. Been here for 22 years. Do alot of fishing at Lake Carlton...mainly because it is close to home.
-
Hey jbird68. Know right where your from Wrestled a guy named Jeff Jenkins for many years from the Morrison area. You have some great fisheries down there and enjoy everyone of them. Tight lines to you and have an awesome season.
