I thought we should start this topic off early this year. I'm game for fishing any where that has ice in Illinois, including the Mississippi backwater areas.
-
I couldn't make it out last year but I'm certainley up for it this year. I'm with Hardwaterhunter, anywhere with consistent ice is fine by me.
-
I'd like meet some folks from IS. I'm game for anyplace once safe ice is there. The backwaters sound interesting, I've never fished there.
-
I would be up for heading to the northern part of this great state for an early winter get together. I would like to try some different waters then just the local lakes I fish during the warmer months.

Glad to see some one got this thing going for Illinois. I also would like to fish some new lakes and meet some fellow IS members. I fish lake Storey being from Galesburg. If any one wants to come to this area give me a holler I will go.

Been fishing the home lakes as well the past few years. Mainlly Lake Carlton and a private pond just off of I-88. Didn't make it to the Miss. R. last year. Never been to Shabbona during the winter. That would be fun and not too far to drive.

I'm always up for trying new places and meeting new people. What kind of fish do you get at the backwaters, always thought about going maybe this year. :icefish:

I wouldnt mind a trip to the backwaters. Have to get smitty or someone to do a little scoutin to get a final location once ice gets here. Gotta have a safe section to do it on

You never know what you're gonna catch up on the back waters. You could catch a bass one minute and a dogfish the next. Perch gills bass crappie pike its all there til you target em lol.

I would like to fish the backwaters this year, i never have but have heard alot about it.
-
Where do you guys get on the back waters at. I'm trying to map out directions from my house, really thinking about trying it this year. I only live about 1-1.5 hrs east of there I think. :icefish:
-
your little father than that ice cube but ck by thompson or fulton will get u close
-
Thanks map quest says Fulton is 1 hour 11 Min's not to bad. I might try it once or twice this coming season. Can you access the river any place or is there only certain spots to get on. :icefish:
-
There are certain spots. I would have to look it up but there are a few sp and campgrounds that you can access the river from
-
I like the idea of OTP's (other than panfish) Backwaters sounds good. Most lakes are over fished for gamefish here except for some secret spots.
-
well i can tell you one thing the pike in millers were thick this year when we were fishing our bass tourneys and this year we caught a lot of 30-36 inchers in there and for info that is north of savanna at the palisade state park boat ramp
-
I'd b up for that plenty of free parking not terrible walk to 4 foot of water shouldn't b any current there. I had a monster on in there a couple years ago was probably around 20lbs. Or so.
-
I have not caught pike so I would like to tru that
-
I'm a newbie... But I'd like to participate!
