Another awesome ice season comes to a close!
Lots of great days out. A few slow ones. Explored new waters.
Highlight was definitely a lot of whites. Limited at Pigeon in 2 trips and 2 hours on the final trip. None of my existing spots produced this year. I had to put in my time to find them. Had some really epic fights. Those big whites run and run when hooked. Had my first snap off on a white in a couple of years, been lucky for a long time. It was a beast that I had on for quite a few minutes until the line rubbed on the ice where I had joined about 100 ft of flouro to braid. Hard to say how big but likely over 7 lbs...or more.
After that goal reached, I went in search of other species. Lots of burbot and walleye. Did okay for pike and perch. Came back again for whites at Gull during the spawn and it was a very strong showing.
Finished off yesterday at Pigeon hoping an old spot would produce but only landed one walleye and marked one fish that was unconfirmed. But hey, that’s fishing.
Here are some highlights:
Tigers to kick off the season
Pigeon trip 1. Typical Sylvan white caught the day before for size reference.
Trip 2.
Trip 3. Hottest day. Quit after 2 hours. Landed 3 for my 10 possession limit, released a 4th and called it a day.
Two I caught were near twins.
The near twins
