access to lake athabasca area
« on: Jan 26, 2005, 03:21 PM »
i have heard that there might be a winter road from fort macmurray to fort chipewyan. does anybody know this to be true.i am planning a trip this winter to visit a brother in law in fort mac and thought it might be a good time to hit the big chunk of ice. otherwise i would be looking into lac la biche area. Im mostly interested in targeting the big pike! Anything you guys might know would be great help as i have never fished in northern alberta before.
 :)thanks ahead of time.

Hi,yes theres a winter road up to ft chip, now open until the weather warm's,usually mid march.I would recommend the labiche area,as the snow is extremely deep this year in the north east.If you do want to try the big lake, head for Old Fort Bay as they grow to 40lb's there and very shallow water,so neeed strong line, locals have used white 1/8 " rope.
