You think we will have ice by mid January?
Temps are starting to look better for ice. ;D

That is a really good question.  I feel like this winters weather is similar to last regarding temps.  I looked back at a official weather station that's 1/4mile from my house in central MD and it's very close to last year.  So unless Deep Creek is drastically different, I feel late Jan/Early Feb will be feasible.

Looking at the weather forecast, we should have some ice by the end of next week ;D  Keeping my fingers crossed.

Any update on the ice conditions for DCL? Seems like the coves may be locked and ready for venturing.

I've been watching the webcams since yesterday.  From last night into today a small skim of ice formed over night.  Some of that melted during the day today but the next two weeks will most certainly solidify the ice into the hard stuff.  FLAGS!

I was thinking the same thing dausboot was, that some of those coves oughta be locked up. Was thinking I’d do a drive up to PA in the meantime to a few spots I know people are fishing but decided against it as I’ve become a total chicken about driving in weather. Lingering PTSD from a nasty wreck will do that to ya.

Web cams are showing the main lake is frozen this morning.
Hopefully will have safe ice by the weekend in all the coves and maybe the main lake.
Flag up ;D

Just looked at the cams again and mostly just open water off the creamery. The mchenry cove looks locked up though and I did see a couple people walking around on it a couple days ago. However, I could see open water maybe 80 yards from them which could be sketchy.

It's right on the edge from freezing over completely with a skim of ice.  Yesterday it was frozen over all day, but this morning when as you saw, it's now all open again.  WHAT A TEASE!

last night's artic freeze with no wind should have done the trick, i hope, tonight looks promising as well for ice growth

Cameras show Lake is locked up.  I agree with you.  I think the next two weeks will be great for ice making.  I'm sure some of the coves are fishable right now.... Best of luck everyone.  Stay dafe and FLAGS!

That's my assessment as well Derek. It looks like we've got some nights getting into the negatives. While I have no interest in fishing those kinda temps, I love what they'll do for the ice situation.  I'm jonesing so bad to get on the hard stuff, I'll likely make a trek up into PA to get my fix this weekend though not sure where. Looks to be a number of places in the Reading area. Since I'm near Baltimore, that's even a bit shorter than the drive out to DCL.  If you decide to check out the coves, good luck and don't forget your spud to check for thin areas.

Best,
Rock
