Type of Ski's for a sled.
« on: Feb 14, 2016, 10:02 PM »
I've never built a "smitty sled" (Nor do I really know what it is exactly). I have a Jet Sled Jr and plan on building something to get it off the ground and to strap my hub shanty on to the side of it. I have an idea as to what I want to do, but my biggest question is the ski's! Is there a difference between Downhill and Cross Country? Also, what do you use to screw the wood in to the ski's? I don't care about making it collapsible, Just want to be able to drag my sled easier and be able to fit more on like the hub shelter I got coming in the mail on Tuesday.

XC skis are narrower than downhills.    Wider is better.      ;)2

Have you looked over the "Smitty sled" thread ?

Here's a link:     http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=103927.0

Good plan to read at the very least, the first few items.

I got a pair of youth downhills for 40 bucks in excellent condition off of craigslist. Going to measure it out and head to Home Depot tomorrow to get what I need to finish it.

Thanks for the link! I'm going to skim through it and get some good ideas.
