Woolly Worm
« on: Sep 24, 2007, 10:44 PM »
Has anyone seen the Woolly Worms out yet.  I haven't seen any around here.  There a pretty good indicator of what the winter will be like.

The caterpillars crawling across the roads around here (NW Ohio) are pure black. If I'm not mistaken, thats a sign of cold weather to come.
May ol man winter blow a cool breeze up your shorts!

The one my Dad swears by is looking at the corn fields. Close to harvest time, if the ear is sticking out of the end of the husk, mild winter. If the husk is completely covering the ear, cold winter. He also looks at the fat content under the hides of squirrels, rabbits, and deer to see how they are feeding.
May ol man winter blow a cool breeze up your shorts!
