It's a fun tourney. Lots of people and tons of gear on the ice. 50/50 raffles, hourly prizes for weighed fish, 4-wheeler giveaways for participants, etc. The locals tend to get drunk and fight by the end of the afternoon, at least they have the last three or four I attended. Of course, there is a bit of cheating involved (the biggest pike of the day a few years ago was caught 5 minutes after lines-in, had a huge hole in his lip (I assume from the rope that was frozen in the ice to keep him tethered) and his dorsal and tail fins were worn down from being captive just under the ice for a day or two...or three)). I mentioned it to DEC at the weigh-in, but I was told it could not be proven. Seemed pretty easy to prove to me. Of course, it was a local with a house on the western edge of the pond. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...well...you get the idea. Always a few bad eggs. Parking sucks, go early! Many folks show up Friday and pre-fish. That signals the beginning of the party. Have fun! We had eagles landing on the ice grabbing our spent bait, it's a great area. Tight lines!
