4 Legged Chum in Ice holes ?

Ice fishing this weekend and I re-opened up a old ice hole that had been drilled by another angler. 

To my surprise is had a bunch of Elk droppings in it.  ? ? ? ? ?

Question?  Who uses animal dung to chum?   :o

Or, explain how that could be?  Any theories?

BTW, I am sad that the ice is about gone,
