Helix 5 G2 Chirp Transducer
« on: Feb 05, 2018, 01:36 PM »
I'm converting my open water Helix 5 G2 Chirp DI unit to use on the hard water.  Ive been getting conflicting information on which transducer to use.  Ive read to use the 1521 transducer to be able to use the Chirp, but i cannot find it available anywhere.  So do I have to use the 1521 or will the XI 9 20 transducer work just fine?  Also looking for recommended settings for anyone who has the same 5 or 7 unit.  Thanks in advance!

General wisdom and humminbird both state that the xi-9-1521 CHIRP ice transducer is required to run CHIRP on the G2 units.

Some people have said that the xi-9-20 will work also, but I believe it's just regular 83/200khz frequencies.

Humminbird told me direct the chirp needs the 1521.  You CAN use the 9 20, but you will be handcuffing your unit by not being able to use the chirp feature.

9 20 will not give you dual beam on a di unit...you'd be locked in to 200khz

get the 1521 or loop the cord on your di transducer until then - it only chirps on 455khz however lol

I tried to rig my DI transducer, but fought the stiff cable.  I was getting a ton of clutter on the screen and couldn't get it to clear.  After 5-10 minutes of messing with the sensitivity and other settings the depth started to read 300ft when i was in 11-12ft.  I shut the unit off and back on and it still read 300ft.  At that point I gave up and went back to my Vex.  Any recommendations on standard ice settings would be greatly appreciated....

advanced mode, manually set max depth and everything else - turn the auto depth off
