Took a long walk today to check ice conditions ahead of next weekends derby ..... Lots of ice but not much action other than a few small perch .... Packed up and headed for the walleye spot early hoping to find some perch ... No action for perch but the walleye bit during the steady snow fall .... 3 nice size keepers one with a 4" bluegill inside it ...

Seeing if anyone has some intel on Lake Ozonia, I plan on being in the area next weekend (fingers crossed).
Ive only open water fished there, perch all seem to be same size , not sure where to start for ice fishing , I also never caught a splake before and know they are in there, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fishing has slowed, somewhat.  Still good catches of Crappie and Pike at times.  This last snow (8-10" yesterday) will make life difficult for wheeled vehicles.  I'm sure the slush will be starting very soon, with all the snow weight on the ice.  The ice is a good 11-12" + across most of the lake.  It's another seasoon I'm gladd I have tracks on the wheeler.

Good luck to ya next week.

Thanks Trap. The boy got another one the 10th that went about 16lb out of Champlain up by crown point. On a streak. Been low quantity but high quality this year.

Good luck tomorrow eyehi, please post how it went.

thought I posted this Saturday but guess it did not work ..... our group had a tough day with the northeast wind and snow only managed a couple perch, fishing out deep at coles creek ...... there was two pike caught that went 16 pounds ..... the legion had a great turnout with 130 anglers at the derby ..... lots of good door prizes ....

years ago we used to get some slob perch at ozonia then a huge perch hatch must of occurred and now it seems most of the perch are 7-8 inches .... we used to fish between the camps and the island 18 foot deep with spikes for bait .... the perch were puking up freshwater scuds ...

February lull is killing me then. Was getting my limit every trip, no I'm not even getting any flags or bites jigging. But it is nice to be out either way

Early ice is always good. It will pick back up the last week or two of the season, if the ice is still good.

Good job everyone pulling in the eyes.  I have been trying to ice a walleye up here for years and have never caught a keeper.  Skunked again in waddington...

Maybe it's Feb lull as that is when I usually get out a few times.  Going to try next week.  I did hit a 12 inch perch on a 3 inch jigging rap which was fun.

Was told by two bait shops that they won't be getting sucker minnows the rest of the season. Anyone heard this yet?

Pretty standard from what i understand, late season there is a supply issue and they are either too expensive or cant be found

Went out around waddington yesterday, terribly slow, tried 2 locations with some friends, one short northern, 3 perch, 0 eyes. Barely marked a fish on the flasher. FEB sucks haha hoping it picks of the first 2 week of march so i can get out and maybe score an eye of decent quality.

Don't give up now .... The walleye bite will heat up in early march ....

Maybe we can meet up at some point and get on some fish!
