Thought PVC wasn't as easy to work with and the aluminum is super light.
As for time? I just think these things up between beers in the evening and build them when I get the chance.

i agree with beer thing, but look back a couple pages. those were done will pretty buzzed, and my lip ripper rocks! PVC is cake to work with, and i have no breakage, even when it's below zero. the lip ripper's at least 10 years old!

Holder with jigger

Jigger is a barbacue rotisarie, which used 2-D cell batteries.

I use this to transport my rods and also use for a rod holder on my second rod when I am on the ice.

Actually it was a fishin buddy that came up with the idea, but the jig and pause action is very effective. I have been using the jigger for about 4 years now and after seeing the increase in both hits and hookups I now pause much longer when jigging with the rod in hand. I usually set the lure on the jigger (walleye flyer or chubby darter) so it is on the bottom in the pause phase. While I am jigging with a rod in hand I had a bad tendacy not to impart the pause phase long enough. When I first started using the jigger there were days when it outfished my rod in hand by at least 3-1. I found I was not only jigging too often, but too quickly, and also setting the hook to early on occasion. I now use a wave buster slip bobber on all the rods I use for ice fishing walleye, that has really increased my hookups as well.

I did a search on your previous posts. Love your bbq jigger! I'm trying to figure out how the constant rotation rotisserie then only jigs the rod once every 6-8 seconds? Any chance you could enlighten me on the mechanics of the set-up?

The shaft coming out of the rotisarie is actually just a threaded bolt (you will have to install this) as there is normally just a small square opening the rotisarie shaft on you barbecue fits into. The small arm you see with the holes in it (left side of pic) is bolted to the shaft with a lock nut. Although the red arm across from this arm looks like it goes into the shaft actually it has a 90 degree bend (toward you) and is covered with a silver tube (this tube is larger than the red arm and spins on the red arm). with a lock nut on the end. When you turn on the rotasire the small arm with the three holes keeps going around and around but only contacts the other arm (silver tube) for a few seconds lifting your rod and then dropping it. When the arm with the holes in it is longer in contact with the silver tube, this is when the delay happens. Your arm with the holes in it has to go all the way around before it contacts the silver tube again. If you want to increase or decease how high your rod lifts you just vary the length of the arm with the holes in it, longer shaft, higher lift, .....shorter shaft shorter lift.
I don't know if that explains it or not, if not I may be able to do a close up vid and post for you.

I think I got it. So based on your comments is it right to say the photo is a little off as it shows the silver tubed (90 degree towards viewer) kind of out from the three holed arm? When in fact, under normal use the three holed arm edge would simply be in contact with the silver tube?

I take it the rod holder (red bar) has to be attached to the mechanism with that small l-bracket in the right of the picture? Exactly how did you attach it? Is it welded? Seems to be a little black tape on the red metal wire there but I can't see that holding the levered rod/holder.

Do I have it right? Does the three holed arm ever role off the silver tube? (i.e. move too far left or right?).

What was the biggest vertical jigging motion you could produce?

Clever piece of engineering! More pictures or a detailed video would be great only if you have the time.

The best rod holders i've used were manufactured by IceFishingAccessories. com (now defunct); model name "The Guardian". They are 3-piece plastic holders with adjustable arm. I pair it w/ an Epixor EB 20 baitfeeder reel & HT Polar Gold rod. Pretty slick rig-- wish I could find them on the market again.

Here's mine, 3'' PVC pipe, split in half lengthwise. A piece of 1-1/4'' PVC pipe Bolted through slot in 3'' pipe. Folds over flat for storage.

I'd like to say it was my idea, but I saw one at the local hardware/sporting goods store. They wanted like $14.00 for it. I have made them for a few years now, for myself and friends, and still don't have that much in them.
