Went up to that one perch lake up North with some friends.  It was cold as ballz, but well worth it!  We found a school not too far in, and the frenzy was on!  For about 30 minutes, it was fish on as soon as we could get our lures down.  The fish were deep, in about 45 feet of water.  We brought home a bunch of perchsicles to munch on.   ;)

Many thanks kpetro for finding that school and letting me crowd in.  I needed 5 more to finish off my limit - and after some equipment malfunctions due to deep conditions - I was finally able to finish.  You guys looked like you were having fun.  My fingers are still tingling.  Hope the other two hardy guys caught some after I left.

Nice haul.  How was the access.  Did you have to walk the trail or were you able to get right on the lake?

Thanks all!  It was a blast.  Shoe, happy to have you!  Access was good, and I'm guessing it will stay that way for at least a little while.  We got on the ice right by the dam, and actually didn't have to hike that far in to find fish, which was really nice.  Yeah, my buddy and his girlfriend wear waders on the ice.  I guess it keeps them dry?  ???  I have a random question.  Do you guys ever eat perch roe?  One of my buddies did, and said it wasn't bad.

They topped out around 10 inches, but most were around 8

Thanks.  Interested in answers to the roe question also.  I have half a gallon bag from last weekend but I froze it in water so not sure if it’ll be good.

Perch roe is pretty tasty when fried.  I just use a simple mix of flour and cornmeal.  The eggs are less flavorful than the perch meat so may want to add your favorite seasonings.  The roe has a bit of a grainy texture as you might imagine and is a bit dry.  I have frozen roe along with fillets in water for a few months without an issue, Fishslap.  Beware:  frying the eggs will pop grease a great distance, so be cautious.  Seriously, a pair of glasses would be advisable or cover your frying pan; they really splatter the oil.  I have not tried cooking the roe any other way.  Bluegill and crappie roe is pretty much the same.  Bottom line-I would cook it and see if you like it.

Back in the day snagging kokes at the Fork guys would throw the koke eggs in a fry pan w/ butter right there on the shore. Looked ok, never tried it though-
