NFTA small boat harbor buffalo
« on: Dec 31, 2014, 11:24 AM »
Just an update on small boat harbor conditions. Still no change. No sign of ice yet. Only upside is the temps are finally dropping. Will try to keep this updated from time to time.

There is a Small Boat Harbor/Erie County Buffalo thread on the Reports and Conditions thread-it just needs to be "bumped" up to the front page when there is something to report on it. Good fishing..

Hmm...Possibly they are the signs that they post when the docks and boats are in during the summer? Not sure...

I think these signs are for the Summer so guys aren't casting their treble hook lures around the docks possibly hooking people and the canvas on some of the highend boats docked there.

Pete/ny is correct. The signs are to keep idiots from fishing from the docks.

Toyota- thanks for keeping this thread updated as it gets lost from time to time. Hopefully it won't be too much longer OR maybe will be fishing from the docks!!!!!!!!! Pete

Not a problem. Just took a ride down there and good news is ther is ice forming. Bad news is it's nowhere near solid but I guess it has to start somewhere. The harbor is about 1/4 covered. Will keep the thread updated as often as I can.

Just got back from the harbor. Good news to report. The harbor is completely locked up all the way around the inner wall. Looks like all the way to the outer wall but visibility was poor so can't say for sure on that. Looks like maybe this weekend if temps continue to cooperate. Don't want to be the first one out there but I'm going to load my gear and check again maybe on thurs/fri. Will keep everyone updated. Stay safe fellas!

I would advise any cheap auger, with fresh blades.  I picked up a drill attachment last year and with my 18v drill we were through the thickest ice we had in under a minute easy.

I've got another update for you fellas. Just returned from the harbor. Started at the launch next to dugs dive going diagonal out to the back left corner. Drilled as I went and am happy to report that there's a solid 3"-3.5" EXCEPT in the center which was only around 2.25". Gotta say it kinda freaked me out a bit since I was by myself. I'm going to give it til at least the weekend before I attempt to fish. If anyone else is going sooner, please let me know. Can't sit home anymore!!! Stay safe fellas.

invest in a spud bud. it will make your ice fishing experience more enjoyable and relaxing. you can buy one for $35. well worth the investment.
