So a dumb question that has probably been answered a few times but...I want to build one for my otter sled how are you attaching it to the smitty?  Is it held in place just by the bungees and weight?
eye bolts on the uprights and use bungees or ratchet strap

Just take a look at some of the sleds that have been made to get some ideas. I for one just looked around the garage for "stuff" i had to keep the costs down. I went with tie down straps. The kind that have a spring loaded clip. Just my opinion..and like Hardwater Diehard stated eye bolts or another anchoring device in the risers.
Good luck and post pics!!

I think the Eskimo sled is almost the perfect design for the Shappell Bay Runner. I will be incorporating some of it's feature into my smitty sled build. I don't like the ski's on it, I will use downhill skis. I love the raise up feature, that will be awesome to be able to lower the bay runner to the ice for fishing through the trap doors, instead of lifting it off the smitty sled. The wheels... they are a turning in my head.

Wow went fishing with my boy last night, Got there and set up no problem. Now coming off the ice it snowed and there was probably only 4 inchs new. My sled pulled like heck. Don't know if is because skis need waxed or what. Maybe I need to shed some stuff. (NEVER) ::)

That is awesome!

Just wondering how it pulls threw the deep snow with the tip of the ski's toed in like that? I know from sking that when you toe in the tip's it slows you down.

When I made mine straight it would wonder to one side then I toed in the tips just a hair, now it tracks straight as an arrow.

I made some mods. to my smitty sled. I realized that when using smitty to get my sled out on the lake, I was forever leaving it behind when I drilled a new hole. Then after 4 or 5 moves I would have to walk back and get the smitty.
So I came up with the drop down smitty. Here is the prototype. I have just a little tweaking to do before it is finished. But it seems to work very well (out in my driveway). Simple up and simple down. Being past 90 degrees allows it to stay up without and ties or straps.

That has to be the best one I have seen. I love the fact it drops down. Might be a lot easier to put back in the vehicle.
