Although I no longer partake in this spirit, I do make a batch or two at Christmas for friends and family. Pour some into your thermos before heading out onto the ice. ;) Tasty, easy and cheaper than buying.
In a large pan combine...
2 qts. of water
6 C. of sugar
1 1/4 C. instant coffee (freeze dried is best)
Bring this mixture to a boil then reduce to simmer for 1 1/2 hours. Remove from heat and let cool completely. Then add and stir in...
2 1/2 T. of vanilla
2 qts. of vodka ( I use 80 proof )
Pour into canning jars with lids and rings. They will not seal but that's ok...it's booze...will not spoil. ;). Makes about 8 pints.
Place jars in a cool dark place for approx. 2 weeks.

Interesting! I love Kahlua but I've never thought of making Kahlua myself and I don't buy it because its so darn expensive. Thanks for sharing!

Got busted for park curfew at 2am on blueberry hill drinking that as a kid. I was so lit I ran right into the cops. 40 kids scrambling in all directions.

Is cheap vodka ok to use? Or buy a decent brand?
