The bite at carmi is slow but if you stick with it all day you will get your limit when you are in the right spot.

:o fifty perch!  I landed 2 dozen each weekend.  I hate to ask but north or south end?
I cant figure out how to attach a photo yet but a few of the ones I got were slammers.
I have been going with my cousin and his son.  They recently brought an underwater camera... That was pretty cool compared to a vex.

Seems to me that the bite at Carmi is just getting good.  A few keepers from last weekend.  And yes that is a 54quart cooler

It has nothing to do with how old I am, it has to do with you guys getting jealous because we were successful and someone like you that has this lake in there back yard can only bring home 8-15 fish a trip.........Also do you really think I am dumb enough to post a pic and say "hey look I kept well over my limit"  You don't think the Wardens look at sites like this?  Come on.

I don't have a truck.  Just my two legs!  Part of my weekend exercise is dragging a hundred pound sled 200 yards in 10 degree weather with a good ten mile an hour wind to test your resolve.
I enjoy the challenge.
Truck sure would be nice though.

I was out on carmi this afternoon with my little 2 wheel drive truck so I'm sure a car would be fine also. There have been full size trucks driving all over the lake. Just watch out for the huge pressure crack  ???

wheres the pressure cracks
Title: Re: carmi
Post by: Vtgooseman on Jan 22, 2012, 03:14 PM
It goes from just North of the brook by the beach all the way across to the Western shore North of the Island.
Title: Re: carmi
Post by: icefisherman on Jan 22, 2012, 06:53 PM
I drove across that crack with my polaris ranger. It was fine. But if u cross it with a truck go right up close to the point and follow the shore line until after the crack then start heading to wear ever u are going. Go slow with a truck because it forms a wave under water then moves the ice and that will increase your chances of going threw the ice.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the ice is on Carmi, and how the fishing has been?  I am planning a trip for this weekend or next up there.  Is the access to the lake easy to find?  Is a 4wheeler necessary? Any advice for catching a walleye?
Thanks!
Title: Re: carmi
Post by: icefisherman on Jan 30, 2012, 06:40 PM
14 inches of ice. plenty for a truck. ;D
Title: Re: carmi
Post by: Vtgooseman on Jan 30, 2012, 06:40 PM
Walleye bite has been very slow there this year, it got a ton pf pressure this spring and it seems to have really taken a toll of the Walleye.  The Perch have been good but have seem to have come to a screeching halt as of this weekend.  Folks have been driving trucks all over it for a week or so.
Title: Re: carmi
Post by: adkgold on Jan 30, 2012, 06:58 PM
Thanks guys.  There will be 3 of us going with our limit of tipups and jigging poles.  if we combine for one walleye we will be stoked  ;D Where is the best access?
Title: Re: carmi
Post by: vthunter79 on Jan 30, 2012, 07:06 PM
There are (2) accesses on Carmi.  One in the state park which is off Rte. 236 on the southeast side of the lake; the other is on Rte. 120 on the north end of the lake.

Thanks!  Either one preferable?  Closer to best fishing, or safer?  I know the lake isn't huge, but is a 4 wheeler recommended?
Title: Re: carmi
Post by: egagne on Jan 31, 2012, 01:01 PM
Both are fine. The one in the state park has a nicer parking lot  if you plan to leave a vehicle. The other parking ais next to the road.
Title: Re: carmi
Post by: vthunter79 on Jan 31, 2012, 03:17 PM
There's 15" +/- of ice on Carmi......I drove my truck out last weekend.  Couple pressure cracks to watch out for......but they aren't hard to spot we don't have much snow up here.
Title: Re: carmi
Post by: adkgold on Jan 31, 2012, 04:33 PM
Thanks Guys.  I will not be driving the truck on the ice if there are dangerous spots, not worth the risk!  Do the walleye bite better at a particular time?  Is it worth it to get there before sun-up? Any special live bait regulations?
Is there a bait shop close by?
Title: Re: carmi
Post by: BinVT on Jan 31, 2012, 04:52 PM
I've always had better luck with the night bite. But we have been able to get a few while pike fishing during the day.I've never done that well in the early AM.,unless I'm in my boat.If you have a wheeler, you might want to bring it.It can get you to alot of places out there you just wouldn't want to walk to.
