I went today. COLD COLD even with a shanty and a heater. If you go this weekend just fish with a pole. It is wicked cold to deal with tip ups all day.
-
any bites?
-
7 perch and 1 northern. Poor day. :(
-
dang tht sucks
-
Hi I have fished two weekends in a row there. Perch bite is slow, ice is safe.
-
I tried yesterday, saw perch on the aqua view.. they werent interested in jigs though.. came up to it and then swam away. Nothing came onto the ice.
-
had an awsome day out there for coulple hours got 8 perch lake carmi monsters i need a fishing buddy hit me up
-
Saw a pic a few days ago on FB from a guy that i know who went there. H e caught saw really nice perch and I think there was a pic of a walleye too.
-
yea carmi is great for tht
-
I have tried it a few times over the years, never had enough action to make me keep coming back, winter or summer.
-
im not much for fishing it in the summer but love the winter time
-
Last saturday got my limit. (50 perch) and 6 northerns
-
nice dude
-
The bite at carmi is slow but if you stick with it all day you will get your limit when you are in the right spot.
-
:o fifty perch! I landed 2 dozen each weekend. I hate to ask but north or south end?
I cant figure out how to attach a photo yet but a few of the ones I got were slammers.
I have been going with my cousin and his son. They recently brought an underwater camera... That was pretty cool compared to a vex.
-
Seems to me that the bite at Carmi is just getting good. A few keepers from last weekend. And yes that is a 54quart cooler

Yes you are right there are well over 50 fish but it just so happens that I fish with other people you dumb ass! Use your heads and don't jump to conclusions. Have a great day. ::) ::)
-
lol really u gotta call names how old r u 5?
-
It has nothing to do with how old I am, it has to do with you guys getting jealous because we were successful and someone like you that has this lake in there back yard can only bring home 8-15 fish a trip.........Also do you really think I am dumb enough to post a pic and say "hey look I kept well over my limit" You don't think the Wardens look at sites like this? Come on.
-
first of all dude i never had a problem wit the fish u caught i could give two ****censored word****s if u filled two of them I'm not jealous i just go for the fun

I will be there Saturday. Blue clam and black large three man.
Bringing out my son for few hours, had to buy a buddy heater after last weekend.
We walk out so if your there stop by and say hi.
Good luck.
-
how has the walleye bite been, if you're getting the perch I would imagine some eyes are getting caught.
-
To jimbo. You can drive your truck out. There is 12 inches of ice.

Just the 9lber the guy from Barre got a few weeks ago!!!!
-
I don't have a truck. Just my two legs! Part of my weekend exercise is dragging a hundred pound sled 200 yards in 10 degree weather with a good ten mile an hour wind to test your resolve.
I enjoy the challenge.
Truck sure would be nice though.

Greg Barney.
According to the State its the 4th biggest to ever come out of there.
-
I was out on carmi this afternoon with my little 2 wheel drive truck so I'm sure a car would be fine also. There have been full size trucks driving all over the lake. Just watch out for the huge pressure crack ???
-
Mornin boys! We hoofed it out there with our four yrs olds.
Had good day. Headed to Champlain today to find white perch for some variety!
Good luck!
-
wheres the pressure cracks
-
It goes from just North of the brook by the beach all the way across to the Western shore North of the Island.
-
I drove across that crack with my polaris ranger. It was fine. But if u cross it with a truck go right up close to the point and follow the shore line until after the crack then start heading to wear ever u are going. Go slow with a truck because it forms a wave under water then moves the ice and that will increase your chances of going threw the ice.
-
hope the fishing is decent up there, think we're headed up on saturday
-
Ill see ya up there. The Perch are picky, and the Walleye bite has been very slow.

I bet they will eat one of my many jigs or spoons!
-
Whats the best way to get up to Carmi from St Johnsbury Area?
-
take interstate up to coventry, 105 west
-
What kinds of baits /jigs are productive jigging the perch on carmi?
-
Ha! You're asking for a lot......Some things you just gotta figure out yourselves...... ;)
-
Wow, thats alot to ask, i'll figure it out then, thanks for the help ;D
-
Im just busting your chops.....Im sure Ill see you up there and would more than happy to give you some info, just not on a public board....
-
I'm good thanks, i'll bring every rod rigged with different options
-
anyone else care to pm me with any info would be much appreciated!
-
have had good luck on bigger gold jigging rapala. seems like bigger flashy colors are working well in shallower water this year. nothing much has been coming out deep
-
Have you been fishing up there a lot.
-
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the ice is on Carmi, and how the fishing has been? I am planning a trip for this weekend or next up there. Is the access to the lake easy to find? Is a 4wheeler necessary? Any advice for catching a walleye?
Thanks!
-
14 inches of ice. plenty for a truck. ;D
-
Walleye bite has been very slow there this year, it got a ton pf pressure this spring and it seems to have really taken a toll of the Walleye. The Perch have been good but have seem to have come to a screeching halt as of this weekend. Folks have been driving trucks all over it for a week or so.
-
Thanks guys. There will be 3 of us going with our limit of tipups and jigging poles. if we combine for one walleye we will be stoked ;D Where is the best access?
-
There are (2) accesses on Carmi. One in the state park which is off Rte. 236 on the southeast side of the lake; the other is on Rte. 120 on the north end of the lake.

Thanks! Either one preferable? Closer to best fishing, or safer? I know the lake isn't huge, but is a 4 wheeler recommended?
-
Both are fine. The one in the state park has a nicer parking lot if you plan to leave a vehicle. The other parking ais next to the road.
-
There's 15" +/- of ice on Carmi......I drove my truck out last weekend. Couple pressure cracks to watch out for......but they aren't hard to spot we don't have much snow up here.
-
Thanks Guys. I will not be driving the truck on the ice if there are dangerous spots, not worth the risk! Do the walleye bite better at a particular time? Is it worth it to get there before sun-up? Any special live bait regulations?
Is there a bait shop close by?
-
I've always had better luck with the night bite. But we have been able to get a few while pike fishing during the day.I've never done that well in the early AM.,unless I'm in my boat.If you have a wheeler, you might want to bring it.It can get you to alot of places out there you just wouldn't want to walk to.
