Blaze Pyro Jigs
« on: Dec 02, 2008, 03:41 PM »
Hi all,

I saw some in Wal-Mart the other day and they looked interesting since the head flashes red and have a 50 hour battery life.

Have any of you ever tried these jigs?

What did you think of them?

Did you have any luck on them?

I picked up a couple battery operated glow jigs at the St Paul Ice Fishing Show Last Year. Not sure if they were the Blaze Pyro brand. They were about the size of a 3/8 OZ lead head jig but weighed much less. They turn on and glow a red or standard "glow" color when they contact water. I used them last season over several days fishing Lake of the Woods in Northern Minnesota.  I did catch a few walleye's on them, but really didn't feel they gave me any competitive advantage over standard lead head glow jig or dead sticking with a single hook and minnow. I checked them in a glass of water a couple of weeks ago, they still work, so I'll give them another try this season.

From what I read on the back of the package these lures are made by Rattlesnake Tackle Company out of McDonough, GA.
They are shaped like a little fish head, not unlike the storm wildeye head.
They flash bright red when the little diodes sticking out of the bottom of them are in water and come in a few different colors.

Hi mthodges,
Welcome to IceShanty. :)
By your description I think you may have purchased The Illuminator jig. They are sold in 2 packs and look to have a softer glow than the pyro jig.

I saw the Illuminator jigs on-line at www.illuminatorlures.com

I cant find these blaze pyro jigs on-line eather. :-\

i heard about a lure thats like a rapala that glows red with a light and battery, supposedly they caught  fish 10 to 1 while being trolled from one side of the boat and a regular lure of same size and shape and color but not illuminated on the other side.... then they were tested by the DNR and ruled illegal in that state in fear of being too productive on the walleyes... im gunna do some digging and find what i can about it.
