$60 for a motel room? That's almost unheard of these days  ::)

This sounds like a hoot. I'd love to make the trip, and was actually planning on it anyway. I haven't fished Quinte through the hard water in a few years now.

How far do you need to go from the parking area, or does everybody kind of head out to their own favorite spots?

I'll be walking, unless the ice is safe enough for a truck.

Rob, can you tell us more about the Pimples he designed?  Did he work with the manufacturer or just send them out for paint?

Sounds pretty good to me! I won't know if I'll be able to make it for a while, until I find out whether or not I have to work that saturday. If not I'll try and head down, I know a few of my buddies went down to Quinte a few times last year and had great luck each time. Wanted to go down last year but couldn't find the extra time to do it.

I think he actually worked with them to design these as they were in original packaging, there were three colours available I bought two, which you cant buy on the pimple website...they are part of the ice collection and are a green and a red ice...hard to take a pic of them due to the finish...I also bought the pink and black ice as seen on the webiste

I like the red one too!!! Those colors should be added to the ice line-up on the Swedish Pimple website

The areas that most people fish are within walking distance from the parking area. Maybe a 10 to 15 min walk.

As for the rods that I use for the larger walleye. I have 1 heavier HT enterprises ice rod and then I have 2 cuostom made rods. They were made from broken sections from a couple of bass rods.  For line I'm using a 10 # ice line with a swivel for easy lure change over.

And as for lures they are all spoons ranging in different sizes and weights depending on what they decide to bite on. Something that we use that most don't even try down there are the williams whitefish spoons.

FOund out some bad news about the area we were parking in last year. Apparently the home owners in the area had a vote or petirion or somthing like that to have the public access area closed. And it went through. My dad was down fishing the open water and talking to a couple of buddys down there. Found out there is now a large steel barrier across the entrance.  And unfortunatley there is no parking alowed down on the roads due to past fishermen leaving garbage and stuff all over the place.

Now you can still get to that same area if the ice is good coming from Point Anne or from the Big island shoal side.  The only other way to gain access from that side of the bay is to know one of the residents down there and be able to park in their driveway.

Kinda reminds me of some of my best trout water years ago being forfeited cause of some arsehole taking down a fence for fire wood to keep warm. What a shame...maybe some one could introduce those home owners to ice fishing and make nice bout the whole thing?.....highly doubt it ::)....same thing goes for Simcoe, apperantly...small businesses will suffer eventually as a result of keeping us enthusiasts away. Very sad really!

Guess the rich/tax/ paying community does'nt need the income.

Is this gathering for "TEAM ONTARIO" only? There are a few of us "TEAM MASON/DIXON" guys ready to make the trip. I think we would be there for several days but maybe we can plan it when you all will be there.

Yep it would be thrilling to be drilling on the Bay of Quinte... count me in for sure.   :o

My old stomping grounds so if the old location isn't workable let me know and I can come up with some great alternative spots.

I will be staying with my son north of Belleville and he might join us depending on his workload.  I will be driving by Cara's so if anyone needs anything or Skevy's runs out of minnows... or whatever just let me know.  I will PM my cell number to Don before we take off from Ottawa.

I am reserving my thoughts on what ice might be like... but bear in mind that Pointe Anne can be spotty.  Let's hope this next warm spell doesn't destroy whatever ice they have down there and that we get another cold spell after that.

I might be up for this trip!  Mapquest says @ 4hr.s from Syracuse, NY..hmmm??  You guys hear anything about Americans coming over to Canada and getting their trucks/quads/sleds stolen?  I hear these stories (often) from guys going up there to go snowmobiling.  Even from resorts with gated parking lots.  Only negative thing kinda holding me back.  Those are some Hog eyes!!  But don't want to give up my new truck and sled for them.  Ha Ha!!

BAZOOKAJOE, it should not even take you 4 hours to make that drive....personally I have not heard of the problems your speaking about, I love close to a few Amercian geared resorts and have not heard any complaints

I,ll be fishing a derby up here on Temiskaming the Feb 2 weekend so I won't be making that trip but it sounds like it will be a great time.I look forward to seeing the pics and hearing the stories.
Maybe if this becomes an annual get together I'll be able to make it on another year. ;D ;D

I'm brand new to Ontario (just moved here from Utah) and this forum but I can see that I am going to like this area real well.  I would be interested in making the trip to Quinte so count me in.  Just curious where do most of you reside?  I will be coming from Kingsville on the shores of Lake Erie and could possibly take a passenger or two if needed.  Can't wait to catch my first 12lb eye!  I'll keep watching for more info.

Welcome Eyesorbust, glad to see you'll be heading up for the G2G.  We're a widely dispersed bunch from what I can tell, probably just as many up north as there are from the Ottawa area down to Toronto... you fish erie 'eyes at all?
