What has the ice been like?

Work has been killing me this season and I have not been out yet. I was wondering for those who have made it out lately, what has the ice been like? I know different places are most often different, but what have you been finding? Sluch on black? Multy lairs (my least favorite)? I have always been surprised by how long a lair of water/slush lasts between two lairs of ice, even with a bitter cold that is rolling in now...

My last time out there was 5 to 7 inches of black ice with about 2 to 4 inches of hard white on top. I haven't dealt with any slush so far this season.

most ponds anywhere near me are open..north to NH 3-6. even the club up the hill has only about 5 inches. 4 snow , 1 black. there should be 15 inches by now. other reports i hear are mostly snow ice. western mass more black.

Lenz have you fished yet? Yesterday Whalom finally skimmed over completely - today back to half wide open again with the wind. Not that I fish Whalom much....
I'm going to finally fish next week but not on our deep trout ponds...I'm 1960 and have ice fished for a long time and never remember anything like this!

X2 on this.  From the lower berkshires in Otis up to North Adams this is what I've been finding.  No slush and only places I've had to deal with any snow was in Beckett.

Been out only 3 times locally. Spec beach looks ok, any further nope. Long pond Tuesday. Up hill to club tomorrow..got to get out while we have ice..

Haven't been able to get out on good ice in south central MA this season. Doesn't look like it will happen with long term forecast. Seems out ice season is getting shorter and shorter.

S4 late stage ice for sure.  Buddy went through 8" of crap ice.  Thickness means little now.

Most of the ice in nw mass that I have been on has been 3” white top and 4”-5” black in recent weeks

Southeast here, we had a 4 hour window of 3.5” black ice Sunday morning. By 10am, 46 degrees and windy. Went white quick. Made the best of it, the bass helped with that.
