Bittersweet today. My wife and I stuck at home with Covid. First holiday without my Dad. Mom recently placed in a nursing home.

But when the family puts together a nice Thanksgiving "basket" with all the fixins'? Pretty hard to not be blessed and thankful. Thanks brother Randy for the delivery. ❤

I dunno. I kinda overdosed (ate) at the kids yesterday. Got a pile of leftovers. Had a busy day and just got back up north. Right now it's a martini, rye crisp with liver sausage on two and limburger on another. What's to follow? You got me...

What I'm having, of course. Herring in sour cream sauce, on thin piece of TJ's Creamy Danish Havarti with dill on some Carr's Water crackers...

I love pickled herring! Partial to the wine sauce but nevertheless... Rogge's (Oshkosh WI) was my go to until I had Olson's. Had 'em all: Noon Hour, Ma Baensch, Vita, Bay View...

Olson's is the best! Could not find any in this one-horse town yet, so had to settle for Fish Market brand. (I did also grab a jar of the "regular" wine sauce herring) Vita is good; used to be the "Elf" brand. Same company now outta Chicago. Only one I've ever had that's better than those is Fareway's own bulk herring.....5 star. It's just a tad sweeter. I grew up eating wine soaked Rollmops around a pickle, with a saltine cracker, with my Dad. Our special times. As us herring folk say, bring on the Gaffelbiter!!! :thumbsup:
