General Ice Fishing Chit Chat / Re: Catch & Release ... WHO & WHY?

Lakes and rivers should be managed so people can take some fish home to eat. If they can't handle that and are catch and release only I will not be wasting my time there.

Ice Fishing Ontario / 4"....might have to buy some minnows.

This made me feel good! Snow forecast but a good solid 4" should withstand it, skating this afternoon, but think I will drop a line tomorrow, fishing sucks in front of the house but might get a dink walleye to start me off this season.

General Ice Fishing Chit Chat / Re: Strikemaster to Nils adapter
« Last post by hardwater diehard on Nov 26, 2021, 09:27 PM »
Thanks for the info. So the Strikemaster goes into the Eskimo adapter. The male end of the Eskimo would go in one end of the clam adapter, and the Nils would go into the other end of  the clam adapter? Just trying to visualize how it would all fit together.

I have a blue hand cranked Nils.

Thanks for your help.

Yes ..you may want to verify that the Eskimo adapter is 22mm to 18mm ..the Clam female part is designed to go onto the Clam Plate output shaft which is 18 mm.

this maybe something to look into

Walleye / Re: Jigging techniques
« Last post by eyeflyer on Nov 26, 2021, 09:21 PM »
I always start with a walleye flyer and jig about 6 inches to a foot off the bottom. If you have sonar or a camera and see lots of fish coming to the lure but no takes I drop the flyer right to the bottom with a minnow or minnow head and let it sit under a wave buster or the last few years a Venom float. Jig may every 3-4 minutes and let them suck it in right off the bottom. My float is set so it actually lays flat when the flyer is on  the bottom and the float stands up when they inhale it, by the time the float is vertical (no resistance as they never have to pull the float under) they usually have it in enough to set the hook. Not a violent hook set just a gentle lift of the rod keeping pressure on. Best slow action presentation I have found.

Ice Fishing Connecticut / Re: Pike fishermen: Quick Strike Recommendations?
« Last post by saxmatt on Nov 26, 2021, 09:10 PM »
I recommend not using them. Iíve seen big pike and muskie swallow both trebles and thatís a death sentence. Try a single 3/0-5/0 J hook or octopus hook.

Walleye / Re: 5 favorite walleye lures

Walleye Flyer.  I am trying to find some to purchase if anyone has some they would part with.

Scott

Almost impossible to find, those that have them..........keep them. Still my number one for ice fishing walleye. The jigging raps have similar action but don't have the stand up hook which is so deadly when setting them on the bottom. Lots of stand up jigs on the market but they don't have the swimming action. Good Luck on your search.

Ice Fishing Massachusetts / Re: Best boots to ice fish in?

I wish they made the Muck boots in wide! Yes I know they stretch, but with my 6E feet, they are to tight (making my feet cold) or to long. If any one ever sees a wide Muck boot, please let me know.
