Upsizing spool on a Beaver Dam
« on: Aug 21, 2019, 09:00 PM »
Summer...95F...ponderi ng.

Has anybody ever played around with adding a larger capacity spool onto a classic BD Tip Up?  I have a bunch of the old ones that I've fixed up or rebuilt "stock" and I use them for Pike whenever I get the chance. I was just wondering if any other mid-western transplants like me who've moved out west have figured out a hack for using them on Lakers in that deeper 30'-80' sweet-spot depth.  My first instinct would be to change the line and not the spool.  Maybe run a super-line (Suffix or equivalent).  But hand-lining a good tug on that stuff might suck.

Hope you're all having a good summer...doves in a little over a week, Packers vs Bears opener not long after that and two Left Over Elk Tags in hand.  The best time of year is not far away.

I'd just switch tipup styles, too much reeling for anything over 30" imo
