just some quick spots-
take rt 10 north through Hanover(Darthmouth college)go past the Chiefton hotel on left at bottom of hill
pull off the road.nice set back on left.Pike, walleye, yellow perch,lm,sm.
great spot.caught my personal best pike there,41.75" 16.25lbs
thats the easiest spot for you to find.
is this what you are looking for?

rob, as long as you are on the river side of the first bridge in vt, you don't need a vt lis. cub, have you been by that set back by the chiefton to check the ice.

The retreat is west of the route 5 bridge, so you need a VT license.  The access is off route 30.

Check the VT regulation book.  The Retreat is technically the West River since it is west of the first VT highway bridge.  Besides the VT license requirements, you also need to follow the VT VHS bait rules.  You could fish Hunts Meadows in Brattleboro for pike with a NH resident license, but VT VHS bait rules apply there.  No one needs a big fine.

Oh, one last nuance.  The retreat is closed to ice fishing for bass.  It is open for angling for bass which is open water fishing, but closed to ice fishing.  The size limits for pike and walleye are different also from the rest of the CT River. The Retreat is the West River, not the Connecticut.

Any of you run into and panfish or perch while you've been fishing the setbacks?  Looking for some new scenery.

fished conn river setbacks for the last 20 or so years.never caught a pan fish,
tons of yellow perch, just to pass the time, never kept any seem to be pretty wormy
caught pike, pic, walleye,lm,sm,catfish, this might be hard to believe but-
mud puppies and a small otter!

Mud Puppies- They have got to be the ugliest fish and the noises they make out of the water.  Used to catch them on the black river in upstate NY.  Was the otter through the ice? Thats too funny.
Gone fishin, be back at dark-thirty!
