Great Trip to Ross Lake Camps
« on: Feb 25, 2014, 07:07 PM »
We had a great trip to Ross Lake Camps last weekend.  We had 65 + fish including 7 in the 5 lb+ range and 2 over 7 lbs.  We caught a ton of white fish up to 2-1/2 lbs and brookies and cusk as well.   Our guides Don, Andrea and Bill were fantastic.  A really good guide will make you feel like you are fishing with a friend not paying for a service and that is exactly the experience we had.  We opted for the 3 meals option as well and everyone enjoyed Cindy's cooking.   Half the fun is getting there although when the logging truck came flying over the hill in an 18 wheel slide at 65+ I was not feeling too adventurous.  It turned out to be a good weekend to go based on the weather reports we were getting from here.  While we were there a guy from another group at the camp caught a 12lb laker. We kept a single laker and a few brookies and cusk for the pan.  Everything else was released for next year when we go back.

Jason - Looks like you had a great trip. Hope I can pull it off next year. I see that the "Duck Dynasty" guy  ;D  went with you. I know you left at 3:00 am what time did you get there?

We made it to the parking lot around 5 which was good because we wanted to be off the logging roads before dark and to the camp by 6.  We would have been there at 3:30 if the guy at Bakers Dozen in Enfield had done what he was supposed to do.  I told him weeks in advance what we needed and that we would be there mid morning.   We showed up at 10am and he had left a sign on the door "gone for Smelts  be back around 11" he finally rolls in at 12:15 and we do not get out of there until 1.  His smelt was nothing to right home about and we lost a lot more than we should have.  I hope he gets his operation straightened out.  We were calling the Duquettes "Duq Dynasty" by the end of the trip.

It was a fantastic trip and an amazing fishery and the Lavoie's definitely get it done....we are going back next year.

I neglected to mention that The first laker picture was of the winner of our two day informal derby.  We changed Alan, the winner's name to Touge because every fish he pulled up was a laker that was bigger than the last.   The prize for the First Annual Lake Chemquasabamticook Invitational Derby was a custom 42" IndianHill cross complete with engraved plaque.
