RESURRECTED MORA
« on: Feb 01, 2018, 07:21 PM »
Bought an old 8" Mora Auger ($10) at the Polish Club winter fishing/hunting flea market a few years ago. Looking it over recently I realized the old screw in shaft was the same size as my idle Clam-Plate output shaft. I called in a favor and the Mora got a trip to the beauty salon.
See the before and after.

Just a guess, three steps..

1) sandblast
2) powdercoat
3) smile

I'm manual so would this work  1. sand
                                              2. Prime
                                              3. Paint

The bracket came out ok wondering if it would work on auger too          OH and nice work Yankee

Sure! But paint isn't nearly as durable as powder coat.. Powder coat needs bare metal, so blasting or acid dip is necessary... Car wheels are powder coated...

No problem... If you ever want something powder coated..

(You've seen this) you get to pick two of the three following choices...

1 good
2 fast
3 cheap

There's all sorts of small powder coat businesses around.. Track one down and talk to em about what it might cost to leave it with them and have it coated while they are running a bigger batch of the same color..

The procedure listed is correct.
Mine I just left with the powder coat company (managed by a personal friend). My cost will be a cocktail for he and his wife at next years
Christmas Party.

How did you adapt the screw-in mora to a clam plate??

I've got a lazer (telescoping joint) and almost all the black paint has flaked off.  It still cuts like HKTB with my clam plate and drill, though.  Maybe this summer I'll refinish.

The Mora shaft is 18MM and the clam-plate output is 18mm. Coming soon is a 1" O.D. sleeve with a thru bore of 18mm with a screw going thru the O.D. of the sleeve for the Mora shaft and another for the Clam shaft.
I'll show a picture when it's done.

looking at picking up the Mora and using it with a cordless drill. Any input on the blades or how you think it would work with a drill conversion

Very nice....that old auger will get some good use. Really amazing how long they will last.
