Early ice ?

With the cold weather we are getting, do you think clear lake will be good by Thanks Giving?

Its looking like itll warm up with highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s on the 15 day forecast, so I imagine the lake will still be open come thanksgiving. Hard to say, but thats my 2 cents. Itll be cold this week, but warms up the tail end of November.

I would be surprised if there was fish able ice before December.

Last year was fishing Clear Lake before Christmas with no issues. The little lake is locked up already as of this morning.

spudded my way halfway across a small lake in north Iowa today, drilled some holes also. found consistent 2" of good solid ice. I'm sure there will be over 3" by tomorrow! wish i would have had time today as i would have fished!

This is Iowa not northern Minnesota.

People are fishing Northern Iowa today on the ice, each lake/pond is different.  Test for yourself and use safety precautions.

Went out for an hour today on lunch break, fished 3.5 inches. good solid ice where i was in northern iowa

No guarantees (snow on new skim ice could really screw things up), but next week after Monday the 9th is looking pretty good for ice-making, especially in the northern part of the state. 

I would put good money on a lot of small ponds in the northern fourth or so of Iowa being safe to fish by the weekend of the 14th. How far south safe ice might go by then, and how big a water you find it on, depends on which forecast is right. And that snow needs to stay off the new ice as well.
