Silver Lake (Worth County)

New here.  Just thought I'd let you know I was on Silver Lake this past Sunday.  Good 4" ice.  A few perch, slow going.  Nice to be out.

I talked to a couple guys there and yes they had to sort them. I'm just learning the best spots to drill.  Can't wait for some fresh perch in the frying pan...

Any northerns still in there? Remember about 6-7 yrs ago their being an abundance of them in there courtesy of Iowa DNR.  They must have some size by now?

I've heard that about the northerns also.  Always heard there were so many they all stayed hammerhead size.  I'll let you know though, I plan to fish it a little more this year.

Got back from Silver Lake tonight.  Got a few perch for supper.  Took my Son-in-law ice fishing, his first time.  He caught a 3# Northern, it fell on the floor, flopped a few times and hit the hole as slick as could be.  I told him it still counted as a catch and release.  Boy did we laugh...

Yes there were a bunch of northern in there 6 or 7 years ago, but when word got out everybody and their neighbor went up there and caught them out.  Sure there are some left in there and are nice if caught.

There was so many people up there they lined the banks and there was a waiting line about 45 minutes long to get on and of the lake.  There was even a fist fight as someone cut in line.  People that went and caught fish kept EVERYHTHING!!!!!  They kept the hammerhandles and any other little dinks.  It was really sad.  Now they complian they have to sort the perch since htey are so small.  Hmmm maybe if they released the northern there woudl be nice sized perch and real nice northern????

We drove the car out (91 Grand Am), but there where several trucks also.  The ice was 18" so unless you plan on driving a Semi, you should be ok.  Have you been there before?  I just started fishing it this year, but it's an hour away from me..

I live pretty close to silver and fish it quite a bit. There are some descent perch in there but ya have to sort. I've been driving my truck  out there, the ice is pretty thick.
