Thanks for the info, I think Ill wait.  I have a Polaris Ranger with a blade that Id just love to bring and help out, but its not legal.  We were checked last time we were there, so Im not going to risk it.  Please Post back when we can get out without walking. ;D

Are the yellows still going by the Island. I was thinking of bringing the 6 yr old over this afternoon. Where is the easiest place to get on at? How long of walk would it be? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike.

OK I may have to walk out, but I really would like to get up there tonight.  Anyone out yesterday with a report?

The little guy and I made it up there for two hours last night to give it a try. Wasnt realy sure where to go, but ended up on the south side and caught a few with a real nice crappie as a bonus. Sure like to get back up there a try again, hope this storm misses us!
Quick question? We dont really fish spoons when we are fishing for the pannies so I am not real schooled on them. Do you guys give them alot of action when you have a looker or just let them sit there and stare at it? It seemed to kind of run the fish off?

When they are neutral to negative I let the spoon sit there when they come up on the Vexilar and then give it a little parkensons shake works just about everytime. Use nothing bigger than 1/8th oz with a minnow head and dont forget yer split rings oh yeh and spring bob.  Hope this helps

Appreciate the info. last night it seemed like you could call em right in with movement, but if you moved it during the stare down they would take off. The ones we caught all came while dead sticking it. I wish I would have tried a jig!

Should easlily be fishing into the 2nd or third week of March.  With all that snow insulating the ice from warm sunny days it takes awhile to meltdown once you get rid of the snow then you start to get rid of the ice.  All the lows are below freezing for the next 10 days so it should hang in there.  When in doubt drill a hole :)

No trail but the snow is not bad at all.  The ramp is drifted, but once you are on the lake the snow is packed hard.  Very easy walking once you are on the lake, I was surprised.  I was also surprised at how crappy the fishing was.  3 yellows from 4-7pm.

Id pay to see someone try to drive off the island ramp. ;D  There is about a 15 foot pile in front of it, and the entire ramp has a 6 foot drift down it.  No possible way to get on the lake without walking from the island ramp, but not sure about the one east of the island.  There was one other person out there yesterday, so obviously the fishing has been slow.

Made it out Friday & Saturday.... Where are all the fishermen at? Not on Clear Lake thats for sure.... I didn't stay for the Saturday evening run.

Friday results 5:30 to Dark produced 20 fish between 3 people. (8 for me)

Saturday I was the only person to chase the Yellows from Sunrise to 7:30am results 6 nice yellows. The Ice is 19" and not much snow on the surface but enough to make it a workout without a atv or snowmobile.

Wow Glacier you got a perch, that's surprising.... Congrats on that....

fishnfool-3

I found that the last hour of the evening and just at sunrise seem to be the producing times. Hope that helps.

I hope to hit the lake once more before the end of the Iowa Season (The Melting Season is upon us).

We started at 1 and ended at 8 or so and never marked a fish till 6:30. hour later they were gone. Had trouble getting them to commit! What are you guys using I wonder? I had my 6 yr old with me and really wanted him to tie into a couple.

The bite is definitely short out there.  Another quick half hour of action today following a 4 hour time without marking anything.  I did get a perch tonight too, and so did Frank.

Wow I'm glad to hear that a few perch might be out there....

I used a Gold Swedish Pimple and a Techni-Glo Flyer Orange Color (They Liked this one).

I can't see fishing the lake during the day, it has been DEAD. However the late evening it is quick and furious and then nothing.

It's looking like Thursday before I can get back up... Let us know how's the Ice Holding on the lake....

Glacier thanks for the reply. My boy and I were the ones that came out while you were scouting to the west before you came back. We were in the blue trap and he was the one making the igloo while he was bored. I think we were the third ones out? You must have been right on them as we saw some fish late just not that many?
The plans have been to go this evening again, hope we can make it out. I will let you know if we do?

We went last night and set up in the 14ft range in the same area off Dodgers. caught 8 and 1 big crappie. the guys were all set up out farther than this weekend. One guy was catching a few before they got to us. About dark it quit, the fish were still there but would not bite.
