Checked some Bangor area spots
« on: Jan 20, 2024, 02:20 PM »
Hermon pond had a lot of people fishing and recent snow mobile activity.  Swan Lake about the same with groups on the ice and machine tracks. Brewer lake looked sketchy, and no one was there.  Phillips had a few brave souls fishing in very shallow water and perhaps 3 inches of hard ice but not much activity or evidence of activity further out.  Even with this cold snap there is no substitute for checking and not taking chances.  Be safe and no fish is worth swimming for this time of year, and they swim better anyway.

The only sure thing is that the ice this year is inconsistent.  The 3 inches we saw on Phillips was next to the boat launch.

Here is an update. Phillips is running 3-5 depending where you drill. Dont go out on the snow covered middle yet. The large chunks of ice you see on the surface are from the diving operation to get a snowmobile off the bottom! :pinch:

Sorry to hear of him losing his life, I really wanted to get back up to Little Sebago but last two times ive been up there the ice was thinner, IT WAS  8" but a few days it had lost 2" with a thin snow cover and pressure ridge cracks  water on ice more and more ,Its best to stay home and work on firewood until we start getting some cold nights!!!!!!! Life is short enough no need to make it even shorter..
