Title: ICE ON HOUGHTON LAKE
Post by: dachmation on Dec 16, 2011, 03:40 PM
ICE ON HOUGHTON LAKE
There is 3" of ice just off the North Shore, I didnt go any further then 20 ft out cause it was just fringe ice till last Night. There was more over the weekend but most of it went with the rain and warm temps. Yeehaw! It appears to be totally capped off.

Cool Beans!
Anyone know if Lake Margrethe usually freezes around the same time or if it's frozen now as well?
Hoping to get up there around Christmas or a little after.

you could try manistee lake a few miles to the west of that. It usually is ready by Christmas.

Catz, Thanks for the suggestion. May give it a try, but it's a little far from our cabin on higgins. May be the only option though.

Looking at the Houghton Lake Web Cam (http://www.houghtonlakecam.com/) it's snowing up there right now.  Looks like half an inch at this time.  Hope it doesn't snow enough to "insulate" the ice.  I may be headed that way Christmas Eve to get another fix.  No ice left here in Indiana as of this writing and doubtful there will be anything in a week.
