If you're looking for a base layer, I'd stick with something more traditional like merino wool or fleece.  You want your baselayer to wick moisture away from you as you sweat.  You can get Smartool bottoms for about the same price or Meriwool bottoms for less on Amazon.  Go with the 250g/m weight.

Definitely not a base layer, but interesting, yet expensive too.
