Western MA - DEC 17TH

Central MA - DEC 25TH (Merry Christmas)

Eastern MA - JAN - 1ST (Happy New Year)

This is my safe guess of at least 6 inches. Some folks like to dare Mother Nature with 3 or 4 inches. NO THANK YOU!!!!!!! :cookoo:

I haven't had any dreams about ice fishing yet, so I'm going to have to say at least a month before I'm fishing. I think last year it was the 12th or 14th of December before I was on ice with more than my spudbar and a life jacket. Might have been the week before, though. Seems like it will be earlier this year though, I'm going to say December fourth I'll be fishing on ice this year.

You're a mad man!  I'll fish on 1" of black ice, as long as it's on top of another two inches...

believe me..i'm not on water that is over my head.

shallow pond up in the hills freezes very early. 26" of ice last year. if it wasn't for all that rain in march, i would normally fish almost thru april.

Bring it on baby!!!

H=4(square root of p)

H is the thickness of the ice, p is the total load in tons.

I weigh in at 160 with gear on, so in theory 1.13 inches of clear perfect ice would hold me up. Ain't no way I'm going out on an inch and and eighth, though! My luck, I'd catch a huge fish and as soon as I pulled it out and held it to get the hook out the ice would crack...

You guys are cracking me up. But you're right, 1st i ce the same for everyone. My buddy Phil is QUITE a hit bigger than I am. I'm 140sh now, but used to only be about 110 (married life lol). We use a spud bar up here in MI called a speedy spud. It takes out over an inch of ice with just a little poke. So it would get comical when we'd be trying to describe the ice conditions to each other at 1st ice.  I could walk on ice that drew water on a poke. Phil needed a hard poke to walk on...brings back lots of tense but humurous memories.

You're forgetting my superior fishing skills, obviously. And the stupid dance I do when I catch a big fish!
