putting line on a tip up ?
« on: Dec 04, 2004, 09:41 PM »
Ok, this is my first year using a tip-up. My only question is how is the line supposed to go on the tip-up? How do I put it on with out all the line winding off? this is the tip-up that I have in the pic bellow.

Most people use a 2 to 3 foot leader.

Leader set up for Northern

tip up rig

Rigging smelt

This is just a few ideas but there is tons of info in some other threads as well. Hunt around the site and you may be surprised just how much information is already on here just waiting for you to read. I would look in  this thread (Tipups) but also consider looking in the species sections that you plan to target.

Good luck

I have found that taking a cordless drill and clamping it on the bolt that sticks through the "T" so that when you hit the trigger on the drill it spins the spool. All you have to do is guide the line on even.... works like a champ and is especially handy when you have a bunch to do! Hope it helps!  8)

Not enough ice or time... not necessarily in that order.
