mini central MN get together?
« on: Dec 02, 2008, 11:34 AM »
I have been noticing a lot more guys from my neck of woods, like Milaca, Braham, Princeton, Foreston and other areas on the the north end of the metro and wondering if you guys would want to plan something for one of the local lakes?  Not saying it has to be limited to just the guys from that area if anyone else would be interested in going, but something more of a day/evening trip?  Let me know if you would be interested, I could toss something together, maybe early January?

I'm game, you will never have to beat me with a club to get me on the ice. ;D

We should start a "lets go fishing thread". Guys can post plans, and others can jump in if they want to.

The word is spreading about Iceshanty. 8)

More fishing of course...

As long as I don't have to drive 6 hours to get there...

I don't see St Francis listed there  ;D.  Not saying serious fishings isn't grand, but if its going to be a bunch of guys tucked into individual fish houses, it defetes the purpose.

I totally agree man.  If I want to fish seriously, I fish alone.

I say we get a grill going and stuff, and just have a good time chasing flags and stuff.  Maybe just pick a good panfish/pike lake and mess around all day.

that was kind of my original thought.  Tip ups during the day, maybe crappies come sundown?  Head quarters in the middle of the tip ups with beer, grill, different pickled and smoked items we made and brought to share...

Always.  Jerky too, awesome fishing snack.

Got any good crappie holes you mind sharing?  I live in Nowthen, so I fish north metro lakes quite often.

Hey, this sounds like fun. My Mom and Dad are from Milaca, and I have relatives in Brainerd and Princeton. I may have to join in! I also would like to post a  place to fish for all of you West Metro guys. I usually fish Minnetonka, Sarah, Independence, and Medicine.

I would be interested also. I have been sneaking around this site for a while. Finally joined this year.
I would like the chance to meet some locals on the ice.
I'd be happy to bring food and beer to share.

I am thinking Fish, Ann, Knife, Rush, Pokegama, Little Stanch Field or Green.  I will narrow it down after I get out a few times.

probably crappies. I think there is more crappie than water in that lake. its getting hard to catch any keepers though. a ton around that 9" mark. :(

Lets go with January 17th just so people can get it on their calendars.   I will figure out the lake later this month.

crappies on green have to be 9" or bigger to keep. and as we all know a  9" fish turns into an 8 1/2" after a couple hours on the ice.

Got ya.  I was completely unaware of that.  Never fished the lake before.

Is there slots on all fish in Green, or just crappies?

It will say in your regs. that is why i always keep a reg book in my tackle bag. in case I fish a new lake or am fishing with some moron that thinks I am making up a rule. That happens a lot. I swear about half the fisherman I have talked to haven't even picked up a regs book.

I got this direct quote off of the DNR website:
GREEN LAkE (Chisago County)
crappie: Minimum size limit 9".
walleye: Minimum size limit 17".

I hope that helps.

http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/rlp/regulations/fishing/fishing2008.pdf see pg 26

Green-Chisago has the special regs, not Green-Isanti.
