Hey all, does anyone fish Oliver by Kimball?
I don’t live too far from there and I’ve heard rumor that there are cat fish in there. Any feed back would be great!
Tight lines to all!
-
Yes, there are a lot of catfish in Oliver. If you look at the 2018 fishing forecast from Game and Parks, Oliver had a very high count on catfish. Some looked to be pretty nice. Lots of small ones, but looked good.

Drove by Oliver the other day and checked the ice thickness, it was about 4" by the boat ramp. Anyone fish out there lately? Wondering how the walleye fishing is and if the perch have grown to a decent size yet. I fished there a couple years ago and only caught small perch and carp. Thinking of trying it some day this winter. Thanks for any info.

Anyone know is there crappie or bluegill in this lake
-
I think a few crappie but no gills that I know of.
-
We caught some catfish, walleye and perch out of the boat this summer. Nothing of any size. I want to try it on the ice . I know there are a few musky left but has anyone ever caught pike out of here? Everything i have read says there is but have never heard of any. Thanks!

From the Nebraska Game and Fish stocking report, looks like they stocked 3,000 fingerlings and around 150 averaging around 22" in 2015. If I was going to fish Oliver, I would use a short 20# fluorocarbon leader to help so they don't bite off my Jigging Raps.
By the way, I checked the ice near the fishing pier about 1:00 this afternoon and found about 4" of pretty hard ice. Be careful if you go. Take your spud bar and be safe.
Good Fishing,
Keith

Went Saturday from daylight until about 3:00. Caught a 6” walleye, a few crappie and a catfish. Also caught over a dozen carp. Marked fish all day. Ice was 4.5”-5” most places but there were a few spots under 3”. Fished on the east end of the reservoir.
-
You jigged up carp? On what?
-
Swedish pimple tipped with a meal worm mostly. Pulled an eye from a crappie I caught to see if I could keep the carp off and maybe entice a walleye but I think the carp liked that even more.
-
Any good eyes come out of here?
-
Does anyone know where I can get live minnows and or chubs near Oliver? I am coming from Laramie and I really don't want to drive all the way to Sidney.
-
Anyone fish oliver yet this year? Also, anyone catch anything on open water this year?
-
I went out there a couple weeks ago. Ice was 4”-5”. Caught a handful of carp and a few small panfish. Drove by there Monday this week and saw a large area of open water on the north side that went half way across the reservoir. Also was an open spot around the middle of the dam.
-
How is the ice on Oliver?
-
As of today it ranged from around 11” on the west end to open water in front of the dam.

A few dink walleye is all we caught.

Hows the ice holding up?
-
Any fishable ice yet?
-
I went by there Monday. There was about 4” by the boat ramp and the whole lake was frozen but the ice didn’t look very good.
Lots of water on top and open around the edges. There were 2 guys fishing over where the creek comes in. I would think if it didn’t open up yesterday it would be fishable this weekend though Would appreciate a report if anybody goes out there in the next day or two.

I drove by Oliver on the way home from Cheyenne today. Looked to be a big area of open water mid lake. The west end looked walkable, but as always, take your spud bar. I didn't drive in far enough to see the area near the dam. With open water mid lake, I would be skeptical of the east end. Colder weather this coming week should help.
Good fishing and stay safe,
Keith

Anybody have any recent ice reports on Oliver?
-
8”-10” of ice on the west side of Oliver. East side is mostly open water.
-
Did you catch anything? Fished it a few weeks back and only had carp swim through.
-
Nada!
-
Think there is any fishable ice down by the dam with the cold snap?
-
Any ice on oliver yet?
-
Fished on 4”-6” down towards the dam. Could see open water next to the dam and on the south side of the lake. West end has close to a foot. Saw where people left trash, a catfish and a walleye on the ice. Pretty sad.

THANK YOU for the Ice Report!

Maybe an emergency- or saw a "game warden" drive in... which might have been the "emergency"!

Any report on ice conditions for oliver this year yet?
-
I-80 was closed from North Platte to the WYO boarder due to the blizzard in the area. May be a few days before access to the lake is available for a report!
-
Any update on ice at oliver after the warm spell?
-
Contact South Platte NRD on Monday for an Ice Report.
Likely poor if any access from the shorelines as lakes in the area are either open or poor conditions.

Note from SPNRD:

The lake is covered in ice, but I don’t know how thick. Sorry I don’t have any better information. We haven’t ever measured ice thickness before.
