salmon setups
« on: Sep 15, 2006, 01:14 AM »
As you can tell I love salmon fishing, bored at work, and got the itch real bad this year.  Wondering what you guys use for setups.  I fish w/ 6lb seagar floro, #4 or #6 red hook, a tiny split shot 8-10 inch above hook, and fish 1ft under ice.  Do any of you use flashers and beads?, and if you do, where do you get those tiny little flashers?? I've never used them and have seen people use them, but I'm afraid of them scaring the fish by the unatural hanging free in the same place in the water and giving them a reason to see the line.

I have a 4 ft leader of 10lb mono attached to 30lb backing. I fish 1-3 ft below the ice with a size 10 treble hooked just behind the head of the minnow.

i use about 10feet of leader , a splitshot and a #6 wide gap walleye hook and med. shiners . i set them about 1-3' under the ice in deep water. if i'm on a sandbar or something like that i like to be about 5' off bottom

so they get going a little bit before they feel the bump from the swivel and i feel it lets the bait swim more freely in deeper water.
