Anyone see that article in the January In-Fisherman called the Power droping rig or as Brian "Bro" Brosdahl calls the Bro Dropper? Sounds good and it's something that I might employ this season. I fish with a dropshot alot in open water for Bass, Walleye and panfish with great success , so this Bro Dropper is something that I might get use to on the ice.

And that makes the Bro Dropper that much sweeter!!

I actually had to use that set-up yesterday. I started off using a Hali-jig, but that wasn't working. I was marking fish. but they didn't take. I used a Genz worm on top with a 2 pound test dropper with a very small titanium jig, size 16 or 18. It did the trick. ;D

Its a great rig sure to produce...especially the more heavily pressured areas...but the thing is, the most heavily pressured area I fish (saratoga lake), the gills still take big jigs, even in the middle of the day with 150 people out there and vehicles buzzing around.
-
Bigred, that is true on a lake I fish. A lake that is polluted with perch and crappie gets hammered ever year by guys, but I rarely ever have to down size. The Hali usually does the trick. This other lake doesn't get pressured much, even in the summer, but they are always light biters.

guys, the Bro-dropper he is talking about is the "new" one in the latest In-Fisherman. Basically it's a drop shot rig - bell sinker on the end, hook and a minnow up the line 6" to 2'. Nothing new here, great lakes perch fishermen have been using this rig for eons....He talks about banging it into the bottom to stir up the silt/mud - that's a GOOD trick, one of my favorites. I'm sure it's very effective in certain situations, as a second rod, etc.

Same here, guys perch fishing Lake George and Champlain run two flies above a 1/2oz bellsinker.

Sounds like looselining to me. ;D

What kind of knot do you guys use. Last year I started using a Palomar and it worked pretty good.

from a past in-fisherman mag. i think there is acually a knot called the bro-dropper knot?
-
One good thing about this setup is ,when it's needed, you can hold your presentation very, very still.

I have never heard of the Bro dropper rig.
It sounds like a great rig for perch, sunfish, trout, and whitefish.
Does anyone have a photo of one or know where you can view them?

Get the January edition of the In fisherman magazine. If I had a scanner here at work I would post up a pic.

I picked up that magazone last week, and that was the first article I read...while reading I ran down and grabbed a rod to see how easy that dropper knot was to make...simple...I also really like the idea of using an oversized jig or heavy spoon as the bottom weight instead of just a normal drop shot weight...
-
Yea , making the dropper knot is easy but hard to explane on a post. Using a heavy
spoon as the drop weight is a great idea, with the flash, the stirring of the bottom and the thumping, if you can get a fish to look your way than you have won half the battle.

NEW technique????? LOL :woot: Come on give me a break., I laughed pretty hard when I read this article. This technique has been being used for perch on Green Bay since before I was born. Next they will be telling us how they invented portable shanties and came up with the idea of using electronics for ice fishing ::)

Can anyone post a picture of this rig?

Water wolf..here is a link to the knot page that has been floating around. You use the Dropper knot on this page..The only difference is you leave the loop of the knot longer...The Article says about 2 inches.
Then where in open water fishing you would usually attach a drop shot weight..here they suggests using a heavy spoon/jig of some sort...That way you can pound the bottom with the spoon and get some flash as well. Then 2 feet or so (depending on the fish) up the line you attach your hook and bait using the "bro Knott" as they call it or the dropper knot...I liked the article and have one rigged up at home ready to try..Hope this helps

Gotta love that nice sounding rattle spoon on the bottom

used this lsat monday. fish were very active and hitting anything dropped down the hole just had trouble hookin up. put on chart/green genz bug with a 18 dry fly hook tipped with spikes and that was it, caught fish non stop till dark. definetly worth doin some more expiermenting.
-
Ok, I'm a little confused. The weight is below the jig??? That's not really a dropper then, is it? Anybody got a pic of this thing?
-
TommyBoy...It's not a dropper rig..It's a form of Drop Shot rig
