Who's interested in an IceShanty get together at Deep Creek next winter(05/06)?  I've only fished this lake once so far, but I'm smitten with it and it's huge perch. The guys that fish it often could suggest a timeframe. Maybe one of the last 2 weekends in January? and maybe a back-up date?  I hope to explore this lake during soft water season a time or 2. Lets hear what you have to say.

I think that we can start planning this thing now.  Let's make it happen.  How about if we shoot for mid January weather/ice depending?  I'm trying to recruit some PA guys from that board too (in addition to you SW PA guys that fish there already).  Maybe we can get some of the Eastern PA die hard ice anglers to travel a bit ;D

How about Saturday, January 28th, 2006?  I plan on being there that whole weekend. Hopefully, ice should be good and stable then.

Could be the start of a plan then!  Maybe we should start a poll to see just how many folks are serious about this and what dates work best?  Dang, I guess I'd better get my ice gear ready now!  I'm gettin' fired up!!!!!!!!!!

Whichever weekend we go I plan on going down Thursday afternoon and staying until Sunday.  I have been trying to plan a trip since last year with a couple buddies and I found some smaller cabins that sleep 4 to 5 that are a resonable price.

Bean, where are you planning on staying?  What day were you planning on going down?

Carpcatcher, do you want me to include you in on the cottage rental?

The cottage rentals I found are scattered around the lake, so I do not know which ones would be closer to where we want to fish.  Let's get a date set and then we can start to look at the places I found based on the number of people that want to stay.

I am not sure is everyone would want to fish the tournament.  I personally thought about the tournament last year, but I want to explore different parts of this lake and get to know it.

Maybe we can get someone that fishes this lake often to be our guide or recommend areas to stay.  Where is Fishdeepcreek at?  This is his home lake and lives right on the lake.

Icenutter, just hang loose on the rental for a few day's. I just talked to Bean and he's not sure about his one buddy (Chuck) yet so I'm not sure what is going to happen. Hopefully by the weekend or beginning of next week.

Icenutter, I made reservations for 2 rooms for January 27th to 29th at "The Garrett Inn" for myself, carpcatcher, and 2 buddies. Their rates are $71.50/night(fri & sat) with taxes included(unless they raise their prices for 2006). It's a small but nice motel not far from the lake, about 2 miles. They only have 10 rooms, but all have 2 queen beds. You can check them out by clicking here.
I plan on leaving friday morning and getting down there around lunchtime if possible.
Here's a list of what the non-resident fishing licences will cost us--->  fees
You can get a license online or pick one up at Bill's Outdoor Center which is right on the lake.

Carpcatcher, my one buddy, and myself are planning on it.  I had a good time in it last year. It's well run and easily affordable.

I have found some nice cabin rentals that sleep between 4 to 8 people that are pretty reasonable.  I wish I would have known that you guys were planning a trip before you booked the rooms.  Some of the places are close and range in the $500-$600 range for 3 days(Thurs to Sunday)  If 6 people would go that would be $100 each for three days.  If would be nice to have a place to cook up a meal and sit down by a fireplace and bull****.

I could only make it for 2 nights, so that's why I went the route I did. We may be able to meet up at the deep creek brewery or someplace else on friday or saturday night. Depends how much night fishing guys want to do.

I don't think so Jim. We can always start planning early.  By the way, as I write this, it's 28 degrees at deep creek right now.

Has anyone really set this date as the actual get together?  I am in the process of booking a cabin over in the Beckman's Peninsula area.  This cabin has water front acces and it close to the Glendale Bridge so we can get to the other side of the lake easily.  I am assuming the Rodeo will be on Saturday & Sunday and people will have the option of fishing the tourny on Sunday.

Jim and Bean it is snowing like crazy here in Altoona.  I can see across the mountains and it is all white.   ;D

I think we might as well figure on that date. Of course ice conditions can change it, but for now let's stick to it. I think from past weather data, that weekend is a pretty safe bet.
We've got at least 10 guys that said they will be there. I'm sure another few will say they're coming as it gets closer to that time.

That cabin sounds like it is in a nice location.

It's not sticking to the ground here in town, but the mountains are getting hammered.

Here's the cabin I am looking at.  Not the fanciest one at Deep Creek, but it looks nice inside and the price is right.

I'm going to be making personalized bumper stickers that you could stick on your ice sled or vehicle again for our get together. They would cost $3 each, with the money going to Iceshanty to help pay for shipping costs of the online tournament prizes. They look best if your "nickname" is 10 characters of less, but could fit more letters in with the size of the letters being smaller. The maximum characters and spaces combined will have to be 16 or less. The size is about 10" x 4". Let me know if anybody is interested in these, that will be going to the get together at Deep Creek. I've had one on my jeep for 2 years and it still looks pretty good. And it sits outside in the weather. Here's a sample of what they would look like:
