Please free up the reports board from the BS. PUT IT HERE. Thanks, everyone.
-
i agree 100%... sick of reading about everyone crying the blues when all i want to see are ice conditions...
-
Yeah Travis I'm traveling from 10 minutes away and I know you only have to travel 8 minutes...can you tell me how much snow fell in the last 40 seconds? lol
I can't believe that people won't even read 3 posts up from where they ask the same question that was answered 3 times already. I was waiting for this BS board so I could vent!
-
I had to change my ID because of problems with my computer. I'm glad because I don't have as many PMs asking me for exact conditions from people that travel less than I do! If your going to go fishing and the ice is variable conditions...are you really going to take the word of some one you never met? Look for general conditions and make friends with a few and share info over phone or PM.
BS here instead of reports page and when some one shares a tip with you that pans out...keep it to your self! Most of all, if you get access from private property, treat it like you would want your property treated. I've never invited 50 people to park on my lawn, have you? There ....I feel better! lol Off my soap box!
I really do like most of the people I've met from this site, but every now and then......LOL
-
Just helping the cause.
-
Thanks Game Hog........i thought the other Chautauqua thread was this years BS thread but glad we have an official one again................. ..this should clear up the reports and conditions page............now can the snow stop...........it's such a drag ;D
-
To all, ITS STILL SNOWING OUT. The ice will be no better than it was last weekend. Prob. Anothet foot of snow on top. Sorry had to do it .

Can anyone tell me the exact ft/lb of torque currently needed to pull a 100lb sled in the snow as of 1:00pm today??? ??? And please forward me all the hot spot gps locations. Thanks! ;D
-
Just put this together, hope the drag is a little easier. I guess I could have went a little higher with it!!

Sweet nate can i put my sled on top of yours lol..
-
$5 out $25 in ;D I'd hook you up T.
-
Sweet setup, looks a little heavy to pull by hand though. I am still deciding whether or not to take my quad this weekend...
-
;D Love this idea but others didn't seem to take the hint ..i still see them goggley gooking ::) like old woman on the ice conditions and report page which ticks me off :%$#!: Really want to make it out to the lake this weekend but all this snow and my tiny walking in it doesn't sound to great :( but may chance it anyhow if we get anything worth talking about I'll post
-

you got that right..............som e of these people are better off going to the fish market and buying fish.........seems like some people do not want to work to catch their fish and want them handed to them.............yeah the drag is going to be rough this weekend
-
Its very frustrating reading the constant questioning on the reports page. Apparently it is very challenging to scroll up and read the previous reports
-
>:( Now they are fighting about snowmobilers and ice fishermen and woman ;D and how the fisherman are in the way on the reports and conditions ??? Can't we all just get along and can one of the snowmobilers give me a ride out HAHAHAHA Just kidding ::)
-
Nice rig Nate! I had a very similar set up for my 5600 until I switched to a guide. In heavy snow dragging by hand you'll want it higher I think. I had 10 " of ground clearance and on Chautauqua it still plowed snow. I love that you can use machines on the lakes in NY. PA is so much of a pain with the fish and boat commission and the DCNR having rules and regs. They just blame each other when you complain and nothing ever changes. Next week looks like when the snowmobile hits the lake for fishing. I don't charge as much as Nate for the ride back! lol ;)
-
finally a BS board with any luck the guys bickering in the reports board will just go away.. I mean come here and free the condition s board up. As always it is snowing we are expecting another 4-8" general snowfall before the lake effect gets cranked up again. The snow is deep the slush sucks, but the fish are still there. It is getting annoying in the reports section having a couple people report the conditions and then 2 posts later someone asking exactly what the report reported. Snow is deep drag is tough ice is decent none of this is gonna change anytime soon.
-
gonna try to get out a few times this week for the late nite crappie ... if anybody wants to hook up pm me ... always fun with more people out there

Thanks, love my 5600 so had to come up with some way to drag easier. I used it last week at Mayville drag was so much better. As long as there is a path I think the height is fine. Nice to be able to ride on the lake for sure. Have to have tags, ins, helmet and tow bar if towing...The drag back is always the worst :woot:
The reports page is out of control. I can't believe how many ppl can't do the research.
-
Marcus
I agree with you. Can't these guys read all the post before they ask for condition reports.

Nate, did things change from last year? Last year I was told that the tow bars were only needed if people were passengers in the towed sled. That way we were able to help out a few older gentleman that were struggling to pull their huts. We just connected the ropes and pulled 3 or 4 huts at a time. Did some one say something different to you?

The tow bar / direct connect is the rule only if someone is riding on a towed sled/hut. Otherwise, a rope is fine.
-
Ok, yeah I believe your right. I usually have someone hanging on back there anyhow!! Good to know though for pulling huts behind my sleigh.
Heard a few different stories about quads getting stuck this weekend...hopefully the conditions get better.

Does the person have to wear a helmet if riding on towed sled/hut?
Thank you in advance.
-
My understanding from the sheriff's department last year was that they were going to enforce the "helmets on all riders" laws. They never did while I was out there, but all my riders had helmets. They also had told me that they were going to fine the people riding double on single machines. I didn't see that either! lol I wish they would enforce the proximity speed limit. Sleds and ATV's are supposed to be slowed to slowest speed possible within 100 feet of people or shanties.
-
Any one been to the Lakewood Bar yet. PM me with details if need be.
-
Got the warm spell we needed. Now turn the freezer high and we will be good till the closer.
-
Was out on the lake a few weeks back at Pendergast and caught quite a few perch. Saw one quad out but ice was ~5" and slush and snow quite heavy. Was thinking about taking my son this weekend and wanted to bring the quad. Can anyone tell me if chains are a must as I currently do not own. Also, is anyone seeing quads off of pendergast. Hoping the warm weather today and cold the rest of the week helps with the slush and snow.
-
I hear that there are quads going out. I have also heard they're getting stuck in the slush. I have chains on mine but only have 2WD. I'm taking it out this weekend hoping the the conditions are better ::) Looks like the next few nights are going to be single digits, should harden up for us.
-
Hey new to fishing in NY looking for a good place to park and foot it out onto the ice. Any Suggestions looking for some perch!! Thanks for any help..
-
Long Point State Park East side of lake
-
Was out of Mayville on Monday Game Warden was out checking licences and my fish. He was nice enough to give me a break as I had left mine in the truck. Just a heads up.
-
Crazy thing happened today. Fishing perch this am I have a good hit and end up breaking off looseing my jig. Only one of that kind with me I might add. Tie on another and proceed on catching fish. About two hours later end up catching a good perch that has my jig from earlier hooked in its lower jaw. Never would I guessed to get a fish to bite twice.

that's sweet............bonus for getting your jig back, i'm presuming it was a keeper since the first time was good hit
-
One of the better ones of the day. Going back for round two in the am.
-
thats cool travis that happened with me and a buddy catching tiger muskies up here in cassadaga. one of us lost our jig (damn expensive rapala I might add) caught a little while later on a small jig , actually ended up with one hook in it and tangled the other's line pretty wild 10 minutes or so . We were fishing crappies. And damn I wish I had the time you have travis this year is killing me so far . It is still early though
-
Ill keep on them. You let me know when you get some time.
-

+1 on that. I'm finally getting out this weekend.
-
Should have stayed in bed this am. Lost my gaf down the hole, battery died on the finder, lighter died, and had to throw back two good eating eyes. Snow was twice as deep as yesterday on the east side of the lake. Drag is not gonna be fun if this snow keeps up. Gonna start hitting the west side.

I heard something about the gaf ..like your not allowed to carry one is this true..if thats true good thing my ice scoop has a hooked end i used it last year to pull a walleye out off the hole after i tried just lifting it out on the line and he came of the hook and gulped the air 2 times enough time for me to shove the hooked thing in his gill and pull his a'' out ;D haha
-
You can use a gaff for ice fishing only in New York
-
Use of gaffs
Use or possession of gaffs or gaff hooks is prohibited when
fishing in freshwater, including the Hudson River upstream
of the Tappan Zee Bridge, except when ice fishing.
Here is the copied section of regulations.

Hey guys my partners aren't really trying to go out this year and I am but I'm not trying to go alone. I'm 23 and I like to target the big guys but don't mind going pan fishing- I just want to get out. I have all my own equipment and stuff too. Party friendly. Shoot me a PM so I can get out more this season PLEASE!

Why did you have to throw back 2 good eating eyes?
-
One was 16", one was 17"
-
Just curious.... how do you guys think the calico fishery in this lake is gonna be in the next 5 years... seems like most of the fish ive caught in the past 3 years in the spring or winter have all been solid healthy 9 inchers or better... havnt really thrown alot of undersized fish back over the years (dont catch many).... also notice that most of the calico are over 11 inches not your boarderline 9 inchers....
-
If you and your buddy stay on them like you have there will be very few to catch! lol j/k In the spring with my friend we were on some schools of smaller fish the last couple of years. We have had a little bit of trouble finding as many as my friend was used to in years gone by though. I've only fish the lake from shore in the past and it had become such a circus that I quit fishing for them for years. I would like to get on them at night through the ice, but haven't made the time. I love that late night action when the ice is popping and most people have gone home, slight slack line on spring bobber, set the hook......PRICELESS
-
The cali's do seem healthy. I think it's a good sign obviously. :icefish:

Fishing The Chat in Two weeks for a long weekend. I'll bring bait up for the first day, but wondering in any of the bait Shops around the Lake have emeralds? I thought years ago Hogan's did, but I haven't been in there in years.

Hogan's Hut and Happy Hooker have both had emeralds for your fishing pleasure!

Heading to the lake in a bit. Hoping it will be a crappie night. Anyone else going out?

My wife just asked me if she can go again. She likes to fish also. Except she won`t bait hook or take fish off. No fair, lol.

Brass you have there ;D
-
I must be crazy cause i would deffinitly rather go ice fishing then clean anything besides my fish to eat them ;) Wish I could find some females that like to go but for the past few years I havn't found a single one :( Oh Well I guess more fish for us
-
I also have a 7 year old daughter who loves to ice fish with her dad, I am enjoying it for now, because I know her interests in both me and fishing may be replaced when she reaches a certain age I sure hope in a few years she will still be into this and have her own account here.
-
anybody go fishing in mayville today? if so hows the snow on the ice? any fish to speak of? ???

Well im past that certain age but I pretty much grew up at Chautauqua Lake My uncle owns 2 cottages out there and it was our weekend home till my grandfather got really sick and we couldn't go on the weekends ....I also enjoy open water fishing My brother and I used a friends kayaks and after catching our limit on crappies we purchased our own kayaks. I love fishing out of a kayak ...to keep her into it try some new things maybe even a canoe if a big boat can't be bought. When Spring comes I can't wait to paddle into some bay's and see if the crappie are there again like last year ;D

Is there still a bait shop around bemus point? I think it was called redwood ranch or something I would rather stop there on the way to thr north east side than drive all the way to the hooker
-

Hogan's Hut is on 394 right next to I-86, if you're coming from the I-90 raynors emporium is right on 394 in westfield, about a mile or 2 towards the lake after you get off the thruway
-
How much more snow for slush making? Anyone want to guess what this storm will dump on us this week?
I thought that we might start getting rid of snow storms when lake Erie froze. lol NOT!!!
-
Hooked a pike this evening, thought it was a good eye. That's BS. Global warming is BS.
-
The slush was terrible Sunday. Went out of Midway, and was a foot deep. Ended up dragging hut back later, and joining a friend at Burtis. Slush was bad there also. Dragged his hut in, and had to go back out to help him pull his sled in. It looked like he was snow plowing with the sled. Worst drags I ever had. Fishing is definitely slower than the last 2 years. Ton`s of dinks.
-
Just keep releasing the dinks and help their numbers stay up there.
-
Glad the freezing rain was not as bad as the forcast. I hate when I'm tempted to drill in the driveway. Anyone have any snow or ice reports for Western NY?
-
Not terrible here. An inch over night that froze up with this am rain. Light snow with heavy winds now.
-
with regards to the 14" perch from chautauqua lake, i know if i caught some i would have seperate pics of those slobs for sure............ ;D

Id tell Icekid not to worry about eyes when he could catch 14" perch w/ the KING! LOL!
-
is there atv access down by the bell tower
-
gomaco your best bet, and to keep the people of the institute happy would be to launch mayville or prendergrast and drive to the bell tower. The parking is very limited and already way too crowded. I have seen people launch atv's here, but I personally do not think it is a good idea due to parking and the fact that it is private and can be yanked at any time. Also it is not a long walk to the productive area. I know it is slushy, but there is much better places to launch a machine.
-
thanks a bunch ill do that
-
(http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g436/flybuster1/008.jpg)out of all the fish i caught this year i think these two are the best, got to spend a couple hours out with the boy.....his first crappie
-
way to teach him Flybuster............. .i bet he's hooked now after getting that crappie!
-
with regards to the 14" perch from chautauqua lake, i know if i caught some i would have seperate pics of those slobs for sure............ ;D
i hear ya, i think somebody's tape measurer is broken  biggest one i caught outta there was maybe 11.5", i highly doubt anyone has caught a 14" slab let alone 7 of them in one day!! ..... by the way, good way to give a kid good memories flybuster   nice crappie!!!
-
We took our ATV's from Prendergast Access Point to the Bell Tower last year. On the way back we stopped several times and caught more perch there than at the Bell Tower. Probably due to the lack of fishing pressure in the area. Get away from the crowds. it could be better.
-
jimski I agree. I do not own a machine and with the slush as it is I am not venturing too far, but if I had the choice I would get away from the crowds. I have a good lake map and see some spots that are unreachable this year on foot, but if I had a machine would be nice to have an area all to myself.
-
I haven't seen any recent posts since the "storm" in regards to slush on the conditions thread so I figured I'd give it a shot here, hopefully without getting scolded. Was thinking of fishing Saturday but I'm still hurting mentally and physically from a nightmare drag on Bear Lake. Any recent updates on slush conditions? Thanks in advance for any responses.
-
Heading out this evening. Will let you know just how bad it got.
-
I fished cassadaga which was in worse shape than chatauqua pre "storm", it is now 2 inches of snow on top of 10-12" pretty frozen slush. Nice walking for a small guy . Fishing was dead as usual and I only gave it 2 mid-day hours.
-

Great pic... He looks stoked.... When he starts outfishing dad I will have to go catch limits with him instead... :roflmao:
-
JonnyDarter, seen you guy's out there on Bear last weekend. Seen you or your buddy fall down and lay there a while. Bear is to tough to walk on, as bad as Mayville has been it's a breeze compared to Bear. I was glad to see your buddy get up. I thought we were going to have to call for help.
-
Bear was horrific, as I'm sure most of the smaller lakes are out that way. My friend had to take a breather after burying both legs in the slush and trying to move forward, haha. Thanks for being observant though. Ice was fine, everything on top of it was not. Definitely not worth fishing. Hopefully Chautauqua is in better shape...
-
Looked to be a party out on the aquairium today. Must not have gotten the memo. Fish were very picky for me this am. Good to meet ya nate.

Where's this?
-
The get together on the 19th is planned for Long Point.
Good parking, good fishing, and plenty of room!
-
hey guys i read something about a tourny at chautauqua, anyone have any info on this?
-
flybuster go to one of the local bait shops (grizzly gary's, happy hooker, or hogan's hut) you can sign up there it is a team event it is for panfish it is a fun event with a cool looking trophy going to the happy hoo... wait I mean the winning shop. Gonna be a good time. fishing starts at 8am and ends at noon I assume we will hang out and fish after noon as well , at least I know I will. Come on down should be fun. the following saturday we are gonna have our second annual chatauqua get together at Long Point State Park. Hoping to do something for the kids again . Last year we had a derby for the kids and they all won something . I would like to do an adult, perhaps cash tourney that day also, but we would need to find someone willing to be a judge , seeing as I want to fish and dont think it would be a good idea for a participant to be a judge.
-
I'm not sure who would want to be the judge for this...I know that I don't want to be responsible for $...haha.
I want to fish.
-
I dont think it would be bad if there was a team say, 3 judges that participated in the event, two judges score all entries and obviousley you cant score your own fish... I would have faith in a system like that anyway....as far as the money there is only so much hard water in wny you couldent hide forever :callcops:
-
There is now a big reward out for my silver and black J9 rapala. A pig of a female eye decided she wanted it more than me. I got two good looks at her before she broke 10# mono. Please help as my favorite lure is gone.
-
Travis i will look for your jig fishing time is on the increase now so it is time to finally ice some fish. Hopefully one with a silver and black rapala hanging to her face
-
How much is the reward ;D ;D
-
I think the eye that broke his 10 lb test would be enough for me ;D
-
Travis, I will try to find her next weekend! That is...if you don't find her between now and then...
Just text me the exact coordinates!
-
Funny Mike. Let me know when you get in. I will take you to the scene of the crime.
-
Sounds good. I am driving up next Thursday, the 17th and I want to fish as much as possible on Friday and Saturday.
-

Travis .. was that the 1 you showed me that was all chewed up already ??? lol .. poor 'ol gal .. that's the way she would have wanted to go though !
-
True that is the one. RIP old girl.
-
Anyone been out recently <--- Stupid question... Gamehog, marcus..you guys are troopers. Looking on slush factor for the quad. Plan to launch PG and would like to know how far I could run.
Looking forward to next week.. hopefully melt all the crap
-
I would hate to say its good to go, then someone get stuck bad. I will say its a ton harder on top than its been in the last few weeks.
-

Works or me! Thanks
-
Hey Gamehog... Never met ya but see you avidly fish... i was out last night for my normal calico bite and noticed that the water clarity around the weedlines has gradually been getting worse....mainly the past 10 days.... lastnite being the worst.... is the lake starting to turn or the weeds in deeper water dying off? Just trying to stay on top of my game and understand the lake better...
-
100% correct. Two thoings happening. Weeds are dieing off due to the lack of light. Bugs are hatching.
-

-
The worst day yet. Must be the weather. Bring on the artic.
-
Chautauqua has been terrible for me this year for size, and numbers. Been out 4 times only, but best day was 11 keepers. Two years ago it was much better. Maybe just the luck of the draw, but reports seem to suggest the same for most guys.
-
it has been slower in my opinion anyways. Usually after most guys have called it a year is when I really get after them.
-
ayone headed out there tommorow
-
yep headed out in the am looking for some hungry perch this time no 40 mph wind should make fishing a bit more enjoyable.
-

-
Getting pounded with snow now. Calling for 6 to 10 overnight. Not what we needed.
-
snowing now fishing vikings tomorrow . Need some perch damn kids ate the last batch before I had a chance to get any. Tight lipped at Long Point saturday. A little too breezy to move around much so we just dug through dinks and drank through the dead times. I just built a new snow sled gonna try it out tomorrow, hopefully it works I just used what I had laying around. Anyways fellas good luck if you get out I'll let you know how I do.
-
Marcus you digging out to go fish or is it a lost cause. I was pushing snow on the road with my truck this am. Got a good foot here.

Was planning on coming up off of Prendgrast launch on Sat. Would it be Ok out in 35-40 ft. more towards the north side of the launch? Or should I go to Long Point or M.S. Never fished any where than Prend. and Mayville once thru the ice.
