Gas Auger Storage
« on: Mar 03, 2017, 06:05 AM »
Just curious as to how you store your Auger for the off-season? I plan to add Startron to the tru fuel and give it a run every few months. Will probably coat the blade with some gun preservative. Open to other ideas!

I don't have a gas auger but I do have other toys ... And have had no luck with treated fuels
I drain all fuel out of tanks. And start them and let them run and let them run them selfs out of fuel...
And have not had any problems in the last few years
:) Ill be home soon.:)

I drain out the fuel and run it until it stalls out. I will also clean and spray the blades. Been doing this for years and never had any problems. I don't like leaving fuel in the tank because I have had issues with other engines when I do that.

I use SeaFoam in every mix then I  will run it let it warm up then kill it with the choke so the carburetor/throat is wet .I leave fuel in the tank and start though out the off season ....if your blades need sharpening send them out now .

I have a 30 yr old eskimo sportsman. I don't run dry, that dries out gaskets. my 2 cycle mix contains Sta-bil. I leave it in tank over summer, starting it up every couple of months.
its taken over a year to go thru 1 gallon of gas
never had a problem

I add stabil to the gas, run it, then spray the carb with fogging oil until it stalls out. I then drain the gas, then pull the plug and spray the cylinder with fogging oil. Put the plug back in and pull it three times with the switch off. All done. I do that to my outboard, lawn mower, chainsaw, weed wacker, leaf blower, etc. and never had any problems.

For those of you that own Solo powered augers DO NOT DRAIN THAT TANK. There's a grommet on the fuel line that dries, shrinks and then leaks all over the place. It is a very common problem with that motor. The grommets are not found easily locally but DRock stocks 'em. Leave the tank full (or half) and you'll be fine.

Ask me how I know this...  ::)

I've kept 2 and 3 hp Tecumsehs for decades with no issues, ethanol gas not withstanding. Stabil and or Seafoam, extra oil, fire 'em up and run 'em smoky and shut 'em down leaving the tank full.

Don't think about it until late fall. Pour all the gas in the tank into your lawn tractor, pickup, snowblower, crabby neighbors lawn whatever. Fill with fresh gas and pop in a new plug and you'll be fine.
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

Use the Trufuel stuff. I use it in everything. Ice augers, tiller, chain saw, blower and they all get left with this canned fuel stuff in the tank. They start up at the beginning of every season. Heard the dry out thing with o rings and gaskets so everything has fuel in it now.
