How many hooks do you use and how far a part?

I was just reading the NY regs. and it says no tip up shale have more than 5 hooks or lures or no more than 15 hook points. So my question is how many do must people run? I usually use 1 hook (treble or circle). After reading that I might add more to cover more of the water column. I normally only use tip up one weekend a year and that is for or guys drinking, I mean ice fishing trip. Also wouldn't the extra hooks catch the bottum of the hole?

Taking into consideration all the people I fish with, the answer is 1 treble hook.
